Can anyone provide proof that this is the correct death date and burial place for James Edward Logsdon. Also I have found the initial James E. on many records but can't prove Edward is actually his middle name. He was married to Elizabeth Wiltshire and lived his entire life through 1900 in Hart Co that I can prove. His parents were Dennis Logsdon Sr and Luvisa Self. Can't find him on 1910 census. Below is what I found on Find A Grave but no headstone. James Edward "Jimmer" Logsdon Birth: 1821 Hart County, Kentucky, USA Death: Feb. 2, 1916, Hart County, Kentucky, USA Burial: Wilkerson Temple Methodist Church Cemetery Kessinger, Hart County, Kentucky, USA Created by: Record added: Apr 12, 2010 Find A Grave Memorial# 51004777 Would appreciate any help. I just finished another book and I really had fun with this one! One thing that has intrigued me are passports. Mine is long expired but it is so interesting to look at those of the past. Here is the information. Passports Issued for the Counties of Allen, Barren, Cumberland, Edmonson, Hart, Metcalfe and Monroe Counties 1890's Through the 1920's. An intriguing look at where our citizens went and why! This includes people currently living in these counties and those living elsewhere who were born here. There are 180 passports transcribed with photos on 94 of them. These include people traveling for pleasure or business during this time frame and lists all or some of the following information: name, age, date of birth, place of birth, occupation (on most), name of father/spouse and his place of birth and residence or deceased, names of people traveling with them if applicable, reason for trip and, on the majority, date of departure, place of departure and ship name. There are soldiers being sent to World War I, missionaries, and tourists. Some African-Americans included. The book also includes a brief history of passenger steam ships in the early 20th century; photos of the majority of ships, a write-up on the ship including military use of the ship during the war, schematics of one of the ships, photos of the interior of a ship, a sample menu and a cut-away diagram showing where 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd class steerage passengers stayed. 93 pages plus extensive extra material as indicated, full-name index. In e-book format many pictures, excluding individuals' pictures, are in color. Plaintiff: Mary Matilda Emberton Defendant: James E. Emberton Date4: 29 Nov 1906 File No: 861 Another short divorce case where there is no indication of the outcome. Again the charges follow the normal pattern as to convince the judge to grant the divorce. Almost a "R" rating here. Mary resides Monroe Co; she and James were legally married and lived together until Nov. 1906. He then treated her in a cruel and inhuman manner as to show a aversion to her and to destroy permanently her peace and happiness; he beat her cruelly and attempted to injure her that shows an outrageous temper in him; there was danger to her life and body from remaining with him. She was then forced to leave her home; James accuses her of being unfaithful which is unfounded and also accuses her oldest daughter of the same thing. They had __ children, 5 of whom are under 21 years of age; the youngest not being more than 2 years old and dependent upon her for support. She has no means of support and her husband has ample means of support. He refuses to support them unless they remain with him and take his abuse and mistreatment. He has about $800 in cash in the Deposit Bank, a tract of land in Monroe Co, a wagon, hogs, sheep & 2 cows plus a household and kitchen furniture. She believes that unless ordered by the court that he will fraudently sell, conceal or remove his property in order to defeat her claim for alimony, etc. She prays that the bonds of matrimony be broken and $15.00 in alimony for herself and children, maintenance during the pendency of this action and an attachment against his property and for all proper relief. Sworn to by her in front of Joe S. Miller, County Judge. Next week - very large case (over 15 pages worth) of an England couple. (surname England). Edwina Warner wrote seeking information on the Hestand's of Monroe County. She gave me permission to forward her query to this list. She is not a subscriber, so if you can help her, please write her privately and not to the list - she won't see replies to the list. Her email address is: ewarner6@gmail.com. She wrote: I am trying to document my lineage as a descendant of Daniel Hestand, born about 1770, and his son Daniel Boehm Hestand, born in Kentucky about 1806. Daniel's father, Abraham was a patriot in the Revolutionary War, so I am trying to apply to the DAR. Daniel Boehm Hestand's daughter Malinda Hestand Moore was my great-great grandmother. All I need is documentation that Daniel Boehm Hestand was the son of Daniel Hestand and Elizabeth Mosier. Daniel B. died in Clay County, TN in about 1860. He and his wife, Susan Pennington, are buried there. I know the cemetery where they are buried. I haven't had a chance to come to that area, so I thought perhaps it might be worthwhile to have your help. So far I have not been able to find any death certificates for Daniel B. or Susan in TN. I am wondering if there are any probate records for the estate of Daniel Hestand, who died Dec. 31, 1856 in Monroe County, KY. I have just got my hands on the book "The Hiestand Family of Page County, Virginia" by David Trimble, which is very helpful. I also (this may be another project or may flow with this one) want to find out more about Susan Pennington, wife of Daniel B. Her parents are unknown, but I know there were Pennington families there in Monroe Co who came from VA (she was born in VA about 1806), so that is a mystery I want to work on too. Daniel B. was born in Monroe Co. KY, and married Susan there about 1828. I was at a workshop a few weeks ago here in Southern Illinois, and a vender there had a stack of South Central KY Genealogical Society journals, Traces, and I bought them all for a few dollars. So I've gone through them, all from mid-1980's through about 1997, and found a few articles about my ancestors, many of whom lived in Clay Co TN and Monroe Co KY. I believe I have one or two who were in Glasgow too. I know there is a Hestand, KY, and Daniel Hestand had a fair amount of land around there. Do you think you can help me? I am very excited about researching my family tree, which I just started in June, with <http://ancestry.com>ancestry.com. I have learned that records from Monroe Co are difficult because of the fires at the courthouse there, so that worries me. The next page in Clayton's file is from the War Department, Adjutant General's Office and dated from Washington DC 13 Dec 1913. File 2106263., Examiner the Confederate Pension Department, Frankfort, KY. It states that "The records show that Ambrose Clayton, pvt., Co. E., 6th Ky. Mtd. Inf., C. S. A. enlisted Nov. 1, 1861. On the roll for Jany. and Feby., 1862, last on which borne, he was reported present. No later record of him has been found." Signed by Geo. Anderson, The Adjutant General. This is followed by a letter from the Pension Examiner's Office, Frankfort, KY. "AMBROSE S. CLAYTON. Enlisted Nov. 25, 1862, in Company E, 6th Kentucky Inf. There is record proof of service to Feb'y. 28, 1862. and was discharged Nov. 1862 on account of being under age. This is testified to by the Captain of the Company in which he served. Approved: W. J. Stone. From this we learn that Ambrose was but a child or under age when he enlisted - many did this. The next document is from the Barren County Court, dated December Term, 6th of December 1913 in the matter of A. S. Clayton, Claimant of the Pension Provided for by an Act of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Approved March 11, 1912. Finding of Facts, Etc. by County Judge. This was a form where the Judge filled in the blanks. B. S. Sweeza, post office Glasgow, was a witness for Clayton who stated he was acquainted with Clayton, was a citizen, a resident of Barren Co, and has been since January 1, 1907; that the claimant does not possess any income to the amount of $300 per year. The claimant's property is of less value than $2,500 - to wit, $1600 consisting of 8 houses and lots in Glasgow. The next witness's name was unreadable - L J. C___ of Glasgow, same statement. They also stated that his wife "has not sufficient income for the suitable support of herself and family, including her husband." "That by the combined partial ability to earn a support and income, or property, or any or all of them common labor or by his knowledge, art or skill in any profession or trade or craft." The county judge signed. To be continued next week. Hopefully that subject line got your attention. I know there are weeks where you just don't know the answer to the puzzler, that's ok! What I'm trying to encourage you to do is some research - trying to find the answer. Some puzzlers are harder than others, some might be funny, but primarily there are some word, term or object you'll likely run into in your research. Never be afraid to take a guess if you can't find the answer, I've never chewed out one person yet! If you're on my KENTUCKY-LEGENDS mailing list, starting tomorrow (posts only on Tuesday's), I'm telling ghost stories from Kentucky; one or two a week up to Halloween. Most come from oral histories, some I'm not sure really happened! If you're not on the list and want to join in - KENTUCKY-LEGENDS-Request@rootsweb.com. Just put the word subscribe in the subject line and in the body of the e-mail, nothing else. You might have a boo-tiful time. Dear Sandi, I know I was one of the guessers to last week’s puzzle, because it was something I thought I knew. Please realize, the week’s when you don’t have many guessers, many, many of us, not knowing the answer, are waiting for the answer and those are the weeks we actually learn something new! When judging by the volume of responses, you may be grossly underestimating the impact your puzzlers have. I believe I speak for many on your lists. Those weeks you receive fewer responses are when we learn the most! Please don’t ever discontinue the puzzlers thinking few are interested, as many are watching and learning. Thanks for the puzzlers and all you do! Most sincerely, Sherry On Sep 22, 2014, at 9:11 AM, Sandi Gorin via <kybarren@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Charlie has posted the puzzler for the week.
