    1. [SCKY] Elvira 'Vira' Rush Eatman, Barren Co., KY (1852 TN - 1928 KY)
    2. ccsl via
    3. Searching for Elvira Rush Eatman who married David Eatman in the 1870's in Barren Co., KY. They are listed on the 1880 Barren Co., KY census with two children, Ardelia and Elmore Eatman. Not sure if David and the children died soon after, can't find anything on them after 1880. Elvira listed as widow on the 1900 B C, KY census, no record on her on the 1910 census as yet. She may have married a Mr. Hicks and he died soon after. Believed to have married a George Jackson, nothing on the 1920 census that I can find on her. She died 1928 and is buried in the Rush Family Cemetery, Franks Mill Rd, Glasgow, KY. Her death certificate lists her as Elvira Jackson, widowed. She had a sister, Amanda 'Mandy' Rush Johnson (John) , listed on 1870 census of Auburn, Logan Co., KY in the South Union Village, possible orphans. Also believe George W. Rush was their brother and all born in Tennessee, possibly Cookeville area. Nothing can be found on this family in TN or KY . James Rush was listed on Amanda's death cert. in 1918. This family of George W., Elvira and Amanda Rush are lost in the records. Would appreciate any help, this is a major brick wall. Charlene Smith Lewis (g granddaughter of George W. Rush (Josie Price) )

    3. Plaintiff: C. E. England Defendant: James G & T L England Date: 24 Apr 1891 File No. 153 The depositions continue: Next was John D. Smith, same time and place. 44 years old, reside Monroe Co, knows the parties. Same general testimony and questions as with previous. Mentioned was B. H. PAGE, J. G. ENGLAND, John TREVITT (brother of the plaintiff). Next was John W. TREVITT, same time & place. 28 years old, resides Monroe Co, knows the parties - at least 18-19 years. He was present at their marriage. Saw the defendant deliver the cow and some yearlings, a bed, bedding and kitchen furniture to the plaintiff and then saw Tobe ENGLAND and Mr. JEFFREYS take them without her consent. He was questioned about a fraudulent mortgage of the stock to Tobias ENGLAND. He was asked if the plaintiff say she would stay and that one of the children was sick. He testified that she had said she would return and she had to get back to the child. Said that he was not summoned but George W. COPASS had told him about depositions being taken. He had not been taking care of the children since the separation nor had he refused to left the defendant see them. Said he had lived in Nebraska for 2 1/2 years and just returned to Monroe Co last October. Said he had not persuaded the plaintiff to leave the defendant and helped her leave. He was asked if he had assisted in getting her and her property away; said no - they picked two men to divide the property and give him his property and her her property. He had accompanied his mother back to get some clothes for her and the children. R. A. TREVITT was questioned next on 25 June 1891. 39 years old, live Monroe Co, knew the parties - knew the plaintiff all his life. Visited them often. Same line of questioning. Had a conversation with the defendant and knew he forbade her to go to church. Long testimony about the treatment of her and religion. Had heard a lot of loud talking and their little girl crying and the wife crying. Defendant would take off for a few days and return. Thinks the defendant had struck her in the mouth. To be continued next week with the cross-examination. 3. Plaintiff: C. E. England Defendant: James G & T L England Date: 24 Apr 1891 File No. 153 Depositions continued. Copass deposition continued. Had heard defendant threaten to thrash the plaintiff and wear her out; that he would whip her if she didn't give up sanctification. Others present included Chrinteener (sic) England, Andrew England, Eller England and Sarah J. England. In January or February he threw all the beds out. He had heard him talk short to her on the evening she started to church. When asked how many times Copass had seen or heard the defendant speak so - didn't remember. Extended questioning followed re the mortgage on the cow and calves. The next witness was Thompson PEDEN. Knew both parties; 69 years old, resides Monroe Co. Said he knew they had been married for some time; she is living now at her brother's home in Monroe Co; he is also in Monroe Co - married maybe 18-19 years. Separated about March of Feb 1891. When asked to describe any ill treatment: At Bethlehem some time about the time a meeting was being held, he had gone out to the gate where both parties were standing. They invited Peden to go home with them. Peden told her that I thought he would and that he had heard that she had gone on to higher ground in the way of Christianity. Defendant said he had no use for this sanctification and would cut his throat before he would live with it. Defendant turned away and left her standing there and headed towards their home. The meeting was in Aug or Sept 1890. Defendant was very angry. Witness stated that defendant is a stout, hale and healthy man and plaintiff is now a very feeble woman and has been for the part year or more. Peden was cross examined and stated that he had been to their house many times. They always had plenty to eat; he was a good worker. They had lived together for about 6 months after the Bethlehem meeting. Depositions continued on 23 June 1891 with B. H. Page questioned. Age 31 years, resides Monroe Co, knows the parties. Same general line of questioning and answers. Knew defendant had mortgaged his things to Tobe England for $40. Mentioned the TREVITT boys - might be related to the wife. Listed neighbors who knew it was pretty bad: Wm. CHISM, John SMITH, Tol THOMAS & W L MARRS. To be continued next week with deposition of John D. SMITH. 3. Three items or so: On October 23, 2014, the South Central Kentucky Historical and Genealogical Society will present a program on the life of music legend Skeeter Davis. Skeeter was a Kentucky native who received international success in the country and pop music fields with numerous hit recordings, including the million selling "The End of the World." Skeeter Davis recorded for RCA Victor records and was one of the most successful artist during the height of the 1960's emerging "Nashville Sound." Skeeter was a member of the Grand Ole Opry from 1959 until her death in September 2004, and more recently was inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame. Skeeter's nephew, Tony Penick from Skeeter's hometown of Dry Ridge, Kentucky will be presenting the program and sharing many wonderful personal stories about her life. The program will take place at the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library in Glasgow, Kentucky on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 6 p.m. Also presented will be personal memorabilia that belonged to Skeeter, including posters, letters, records and stage costumes. The program is free and everyone is welcome. Also the Southern KY Genealogical Society posted this: The Southern Kentucky Genealogical Society will meet Monday October 20th at the Kentucky Museum. Jonathan Jeffrey from the Manuscript Division of the Kentucky Museum will be our speaker. Bring a friend. William Sledge Then: Charlie has posted the new puzzler for this week. 1. [SCKY] STEVE ROBINSON
    2. Sandi Gorin via
    3. For those of you who have been on these lists for some time, you will remember that I am a devoted fan of an English author, Steve Robinson. Many of you have purchased his books on my recommendation and not been disappointed. Mr. Robinson, with whom I correspond, began his writing when he was searching for his own father, a soldier in WWII who was last heard of in CA. He knew nothing of genealogy but began learning it and thankfully, due to one of the readers of his first book, located his father. During his search, Mr. Robinson began a new career as an author and wrote his first book, "In The Blood" which centered around a detective from America, Jonathan Tate, who goes to England on a case. The story involved detective work, humor, suspense and genealogy. His second book followed, "To the Grave" (my favorite) which involved the same detective back in England and his quests there - a thriller. His third book was "The Last Queen of England". His newest book is about to be released. Amazon.com signed him as one of their authors due to the reviews on the above books. "The Lost Empress" will be released in a couple of weeks and good old Jonathan Tate is off for more adventures in England. Tate is not a suave, handsome detective, but somewhat of an overweight gentleman, a bachelor, who really doesn't like to fly. This book is said to include even more genealogy trails. A video about Steve is found at: <http://www.steve-robinson.me>http://www.steve-robinson.me Now, as a disclaimer, I receive NO money or anything from plugging Steve. I just love adventure stories, detective sleuthing and genealogy. We have corresponded back and forth since his 2nd book; he is a charming "chap" with a lovely wife who is his harshest critic. If you like good stories with genealogy tossed in, you'll love his books. Each book is a separate tale but Jonathan Tate is the main character in all and a few other characters continue. A great read! 1. [SCKY] BIO #12287 - WILLIAM F. RICHARDSON - BARREN CO
    2. Sandi Gorin via
    3. NOTE: I have no connection, no further information and am not seeking additional information. 12287 BARREN CO – WILLIAM F. RICHARDSON – Richardson, Burks, Nunnley, Altsheler, Summers, Hill, Huston, Trigg 12287 A History of Kentucky and Kentuckians. The Leaders and Representative Men in Commerce, Industry and Modern Activities. By E. Polk Johnson, Volume III, Illustrated. The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago-New York, 1912. WILLIAM F. RICHARDSON. – The honored name of William F. Richardson stands for all that is enterprising and progressive and represents one of the most extensive agriculturists and stock raisers of Barren county, the famous Richardson estate comprising no less than fourteen hundred of the fair and fertile acres of Barren county, the great tract being situated only two miles from the judicial center. This gentleman is recognized not only as one of the most extensive farmers and stock raisers in the county, but also in this section of the state. He is a native Kentuckian, his birth having occurred in Hart county, January 31, 1864. His parents were Robert C. and Mariah (Burks) Richardson, both of whom, like himself, were natives of the Blue Grass state, the father born in Hart county, February 22, 1841, and the mother in Barren county March 4, 1848. Robert C. Richardson was a son of Thornton and Sophia (Nunnley) Richardson, who were natives of Virginia and moved to this state during the ‘20’s of the nineteenth century. They were attracted by the advantages of Hart county, and there located, making their home until their death. Thornton Richardson was an extensive farmer and stock dealer who before the war owned over one hundred slaves and more than fifteen hundred acres of the best land in Hart county. He was a man of intellect and sound judgment, and well posted on the events of the day, and he was frequently sought for advice in business and other matters. Robert Richardson inherited considerable property from his father, and was especially well-to-do, his estate including eight hundred acres of fine land in Hart county. After his marriage he settled four miles southeast of Munfordville, where he afterward made his home until death, his summons to the Great Beyond coming July 6, 1898. His widow survives and makes her home on the old homestead. This worthy couple became the parents of four children, namely: Elnora, deceased; William F., the immediate subject; Elizabeth, wife of John Altsheler, cashier of the Farmers’ Deposit Bank of Horse Cave, Kentucky; and Robert C., Jr., who lives on the old homestead with his mother. William F. Richardson received his education in the common schools of his native county and in the Glasgow Normal School. He became an active factor in the business world when seventeen years of age, his first independent enterprise consisting in running a steam threshing machine and saw mill. His father was the original purchaser of the machine, and after running it one year he turned it over to his son William. As it was the first traction engine brought into Hart county, it was naturally in great demand. He continued this business, threshing in the summer and milling in the winter, for about twelve years, and in these occupations, by particularly judicious management, made a decided financial success. Mr. Richardson became a recruit to the ranks of the Benedicts when on December 5, 1893, he was married in Barren county, Miss Bernice Summers becoming his bride. She was born in Barren county December 5, 1872, the daughter of the Hon. James C. and Fannie W. (Hill) Summers, who were to be numbered among the finest and most highly respected citizens of Barren county. James C. Summers was a native of Missouri and came to Barren county with his parents when twelve years of age. He was a progressive and enterprising man and one of the most prominent members of his community in his day. He served in the Kentucky legislature one term and he could have served longer had he so chosen to do. His first wife died in 1877, and he subsequently married Miss Catherine Huston, and still resides on his old homestead farm in Barren county. The three children born to his first marriage were Bernice, Charles B. and Larkin H., and the offspring of his second were Roy P. and Bessie Jewell. After his marriage Mr. Richardson took up his residence upon a farm some five miles east of Horse Cave, which he had previously purchased, and here he resided for about ten years. At the end of that period he removed to the city of Glasgow and there he has ever since resided. He owns fourteen hundred acres of land in Barren county, all of which is within two miles of the city. In addition to his important operations in agriculture and stock raising, Mr. Richardson has many other interests of wide scope and importance. He is a director in the Trigg National Bank of Glasgow; a director in the Glasgow Railway Company, and a stockholder in the Farmers’ Loose-Leaf Tobacco Company of Glasgow. To Mr. and Mrs. Richardson have been born a quartet of incipient good citizens, namely: Elizabeth Jewell, born June 19, 1896i; Louise Terry, born October 26, 1897; Frank, born May 31, 1900; and Sarah Hill, born June 12, 1905. The Richardson abode, set in the midst of a vast and beautiful estate is one of the homes upon which the state founds its pride, and those who preside over its hospitality are known for many good gifts of mind and heart.
