    1. [SCKY] WARREN CO - COURT OF QUARTER SESSIONS - TWO CRIMINAL CASES
    2. Sandi Gorin via
    3. We're now up to the session held on 7 Sept 1798 with the same justices are on the previous day. An order to the Auditor that E M COVINGTON be allowed 5 pounds for summonses and attending 5 called courts. Adjourned. Note: Called courts were special sessions that were not on the regular calendar quarterly. They were hold for special reasons. Next session - Wednesday, 30 Jan 1799. This session was for the examination of Hezekiah JACKSON who was charged with felony. The prisoner was led to the bar in the custody of the Sheriff and it was demanded of him whether he was guilty or not guilty. He said he was "in no wise guilty". Witnesses were called by the Commonwealth and the prisoner spoke in his own defense. The Court deems that he is guilty and he is to be tried at the next Quarterly Session. The prisoner made motion and asked if he be permitted to make bail. He, Elkin TAYLOR and Wm STRINGFIELD went bail in the amount of 100 pounds posted by the prisoner and 50 pounds each by Taylor and Stringfield. Prisoner to appear on the first Tuesday in next February. Court was dissolved, /s/ Burwell JACKSON. A called court was held on Monday, 4 Feb 1799 for the examination of Jonathan RUSSELL who was charged with passing and coining bad money and hiding the utensils used to make same. The deposition of Gladin GORIN, Benjamin HAMPTON & William McHENRY: On the 27th of Jan 1799 these men went to the house of Jonathan RUSSELL to search for implements for making counterfeit money, diligently searched and found a number of utensils for making money (too many to mention). John LANGFORD and his wife Sally testified that some time last fall, Jonathan RUSSELL came to their house and lent him three base dollars (counterfiet) to purchase corn of William LEKINS (Likens?) - Russell stated that he was an ignorant old man and woauld know no better (whether the money was counterfeit or not). 1. [SCKY] Descendants of Jesse Bryant and Mary Hill Nelson
    2. Ann Murdock Small via
    3. To Descendants of Jesse Bryant and Mary Hill Nelson: Does anyone have a copy of the Last Will and Testament of Edmund F. Bryant mentioned in an article about Allen Bryant in Macon County, Tennessee History And Families or a copy of the certificate mentioned. Here is the quote: --------------------- "BRYANT, Allen Bradford Bryant was born 1803 in Halifax, VA. He was the son of Jessie Bryant and Mary Hill Nelson. Jessie Bryant was a Revolutionary soldier in Virginia. He signed an oath dated 30 Apr 1778, in Virginia. Allen kept the certificate in the family. His son, C.W. Bryant had the oath notarized by a judge in Franklin, KY, as being an original signed oath. It is now located at the Historical Society in Simpson County, KY. Jessie's children were listed in his son's will. Edmund F. Bryant's will in 1841 in Anderson Country, KY. His siblings were, Eli, Jesse, George, Rhoadhaven, the heirs of David, Allen, Polly, Nancy, Sally (Keeling), Elizabeth (Gilly) and Martha Maram (Stewart). Edmund was listed in 1830 in Smith County (Macon). In 1840, Edmund and Allen were listed in Smith County. In 1850, Allen was listed in Sumner County. In 1857, Allen's family moved to Franklin, KY." ------------------------------- I would like to share the following information. I have contacted the Simpson County clerk and did find a will for an Edmund Bryant; however, it was not the will mentioned in the article referred to above. I was told there was no other Edmund Bryant will. While I believe Jesse Bryant's Revolutionary War Application can be found at http://www.revwarapps.org/ Pension Application of Jesse Bryant S39241 I am not absolutely certain. This application has no family information or birth information for Jesse in it. Also there is some confusion in that this file includes an application for bounty land dated16 April 1855 by John H. Briant, who was apparently the son of Thomas Bryant, pension application S16657. In places the name Thomas Bryant has been changed to Jesse Bryant. Further, at the time of the application Jesse was living in Cocke County, TN and I have found no other connection to Cocke County, TN. Does anyone have birth and death dates on Jesse and Mary? The pension for Jesse was suspended in 1820 so I believe that is when he died, but I have not found anything to confirm that. Additional Bryant Pension Applications with Prince Edward County, Virginia connections Pension Application of Robert Bryant S6700 born in 1755 in the month of April in Prince Edward County Virginia, died January 17, 1842 (in Blount County, TN???), two sons, Thompson and John Bryant Pension Application of William Bryant S39220 born Cal 3 March 1755, living in Davidson County, TN at time of application, wife Elizabeth, born about 1768, and son, Hartwell Meekins Bryant I also believe that the surnames Sanford, Whaley, and Gregory may be connected to this Bryant family. These names have been used as first or middle names for members of the Bryant family. Using the information gleaned from the above article and some oral family tradition, research has led me to believe the following is true: Descendants of Jesse Bryant and Mary Hill Nelson --------------------------------- 1-Jesse BRYANT +Mary Hill NELSON b. , Virginia, m. 14 August 1782, Prince Edward County, Virginia, par. 3. I've never been able to pin down who the Leach family was that married their daughters, Sarah "Nancy" and Elizabeth, to two of Charles Carter's sons, Henry born 1802 and Hiram born 1809. The Leach family seems to have vanished from the area between the 1850-1860 census. I looked all over Tennessee because a James Leach b. abt 1770-1780 was enumerated in Jackson Co, TN in 1830 and 1840 in Dist 6. The Carter men and their Leach brides stayed in what later became Clay Co, TN. I've seen Leach households in various later censuses in Monroe Co., KY and am hoping someone knows of the kinship between the Leaches and Carters or anything about them.

    3. I am the 6th great granddaughter of William BAILEY and Susannah ROBERTSON. We do not know anything past 1745. Thru DNA we are connected Jon Bale who settled in a Dutch Colony on Long Island, NY circa 1630. We have not found the connecting relative, or the parents of William or his brother Martin. They married Elizabeth ROBERTSON and Susannah ROBERTSON, daughters of Moses ROBERTSON. They were born in Caroline County VA. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW PARENTAGE OF WILLIAM AND MARTIN BAILEY. They came to Cumberland Co and that part turned into Monroe Co. My 5th great grandfather b. 1794, William married Grace McMILLEN, proven by death certificates. WE KNOW BY DNA WE ARE CONNECTED TO DANIEL MCMILLEN. We do not have proof that Grace MCMILLEN is Daniel's daughter. Daniel McMillen came from Ireland and served the Maryland lines in the Revolutionary war. William and Martin served 5 years in RW. My 4th great grandma is LYDIA HAGAN, daughter of Arthur Red Hagan from Ireland. We have never found a marriage license for her but do have vintage correspondence from JOHN SMITH BARLOW, claiming Permilla Ann Hagan, Mary Ann Hagan, and Melinda Hagan, as his daughters. Lydia has 3 sons listed in census, George, Arthur, and Harrison. They are least half bothers to my grandmother. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT GEORGE HAGAN, HARRISON HAGAN, AND ARTHUR HAGAN. THEY ARE SHOWN ON MONROE CO. CENSUS. Thanks in advance' Jeanette Bailey irshwoman@Hotmail.com
