    3. Well Jim, I tried to offer a suggestion, but your spam blocker insists that I apply for permission to send you email. This I will not do. Here is what I said... --- Just thinking out loud here... Have you considered the possibility that William and Arthur might be brothers of Renny "Rane" Williamson of Mercer County whose son Patrick married Elizabeth Harlow on 14 April 1831 in Barren County? This is not my line, and I have no additional information. --- I have no other comment to make. William Sr. is 26-44; his wife is 16-25. I do not find William in the 1830 Barren County census which could help confirm that he did move his family to Mississippi. Given the ages you have for Hezekiah and William Henry, there should be two males under 10 in the 1820 household if Hezekiah belongs to this family. Is there any other evidence that the William Hendricks in Barren County is also the William Hendricks in Mississippi? This is not my line. Charlie

    3. I'm posting this for my husband, Rod Hendricks. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I've seen many times on the net that a William Hendrick married Polly Mansfield in Barren County, KY in February of 1818. This Mary and William are repeatedly listed as the parents of Hezekiah Hendrick, one of my greats. I've replied to authors of messages making this claim but have received few replies and the ones I have received didn't address the question, which is this: what makes those making this claim sure this William and Polly are the William and Mary that had Hezekiah? If they are, wonderful, but as of yet I've seen no evidence of it. If any of you are researching this line or have access to Barren County records, I'd be thrilled if you would share some information with me. This brick wall is making me nuts and although there are so many claims that William and Polly are my William and Mary, it takes more than some gedcoms claiming it for me to get excited. Know what I mean? Surely there's more than this one tiny thread to go on. At any rate, I went through my notes on my William & Mary and gathered up every bitof info I could find and put a synopsis of it together. Here's what I have put together and sorted chronologically. Thank you for any leads you might have. Abt 1798, William is born in Kentucky??? Census Records William Hendrick Abt 1798, Mary is born in Virginia??? William Hendrick The 1830 Marion Co, Miss Census shows William Hendrick, with the following age people in his household: 1 - Male Over 5, Under 10 (probably James Daniel) 2 - Males Over 10, Under 15 (probably Hezekiah & William Henry) 1 - Males Over 30, Under 40 (William Sr.) 2 - Females Under 5 2 - Females Over 5, Under 10 1 - Female Over 30, Under 40 (Mary H) 1830 Marion Co, Miss Census. William Hendrick 6/16/1860 In the book "The Natchitoches Genealogist" on page 21, entitled "Names Found in The Natchitoches Chronical, 16 June 1860, there is a listing for "William Hendricks". This could be William or William Henry. It doesn't say what was said about him, just that he was mentioned. This is after William's death, which was in April of 1860, 2 months prior. The Natchitoches Genealogist. William Hendrick Mary shows up in the 1860 Natchitoches Parish Census, living beside Hezekiah and William Henry. It says she is 63, Female, born in Virginia, with real estate valued at $8333 and personal property valued at $2500. William was not in this census, so it apparently was taken after William had died in April 1860. Mary H Hendrick Mary died before Dec 24, 1861. Natchitoches Parish Probate Records. Mary H Hendrick 12/24/1861 In a document (No 1213) filed in Natchitoches Parish, Dec. 24, 1861, James Daniel requests an Inventory of the estate of his mother Mary, who he refers to as "deceased", so Mary died before Dec 24, 1861, but after the Census in 1860, because she appeared on it, living beside Hezekiah and William Henry. Natchitoches Parish Probate Court records. Mary H Hendrick 12/10/1863 On Dec 10, 1863, William Henry, James Daniel, acting for themselves, and Hezekiah acting for himself and as attorney in fact for Marion, divided William & Mary's 355 acre estate into four lots and drew numbers out of a hat to determine who got which lot. Mary's negro woman slave, Juneau, was ordered to be sold and the money divided between the four boys, except William Henry, Hezekiah acting as himself, and Hezekiah acting for Marion signed over their interest to James Daniel. The document referred to Mary as being deceased, so she died before Dec 10, 1863. Wm & Mary 2/16/1864 In the probate of Mary Hendrick, it shows that there were three slaves owned by Mary at the time of her death. Ben, about age 44, leased out for $170 for a year, valued at $800, Juno, a negro woman about 45, leased out for $100 for a year, valued at $500, and Elsey, about age 14, leased out for $66.30 for a year, valued at $650. The probate also verfies that Mary died before Dec 24, 1861. Mary H Hendrick 11/13/1888 In James Daniel Hendricks' will, he gives John Newton Hendricks the "SW 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Sec 12 Twn Rng containing 39.71 ???? acres bought of H Hendricks 15th March, 1864 also lots 1, 2, and 3 of the partition between the heirs of William and Mary Hendricks made 16th of February, 1864 before William Payne, Recorder. 3. I don't have ancestry and cannot really answer your questions about it, but I did go to the Barren County GenWeb site located at ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/ky/barren/1850/pg0363a.txt and found the 1850 census. I copied and pasted the whole page in case there were any other family members you might recogize. Are you sure about the date of Nancy's birth? On this page of the census Nancy is 3 and her father appears to be Charles A. and her mother is Virginia if this is the correct Smith family. The names of this Nancy's brother's are almost the same as your Nancy's children so maybe this is her brother and not her father. I would not be so sure her parents moved away in shame - people back then tended to be more tolerant about some things than we are today. The state line also seemed to move a lot so you might check in Tennessee - I checked Smith County for you - check below. There was a Nancy Smith age 11. A lot of the county GenWeb sites have abstracts of the 1850 census posted. Take care and good luck. 1. Re: SOUTH-CENTRAL-KENTUCKY-D Digest V06 #146
    2. I did a search for Viola Smith on the 1850 census since her name isn't as common as Nancy and Allen. No luck. I did Allen but none for Barren old enough to be a father. Since Metcalf wasn't established in 1860 I checked out other counties for an Allen. I found an Allen 35 yrs old, Sarah 34 yrs old, Eliza C 13 yrs old, Jonathan 12 yrs old, "Nancy A 10 yrs old", Martha E 8 yrs old, Margaret C 5 yrs old, Robert L 2 yrs old, and Francis J 1/12 months all living in Clinton Co, KY, district 1 on page 17 of 56 on Ancestry in 1850. Barren Co., KY was formed from Green and Warren Co.,KY in 1799. Clinton County was formed from Cumberland and Wayne Counties in 1836. Metcalfe Co., KY was formed from Adair, Barren, Cumberland, Green and Monroe Counties in 1860. All these counties are connected. This census would take in the father as Allen and Nancy A born about 1839. There is an Allen Smith in Barren in 1850 but he's 17 and living with his parents. You may want to check into that. The father's name was Francis. Good chance they are a part of the same family. Good luck in your search. Sandra Gibby0111@Aol.Com

    3. Flag Day ... a day to show our support for America! Having finished the Warren Co series, next week I am going to attempt to switch over to Allen Co for a few weeks and post some tax records from there. As a help to the puzzler for the week - I've had one correct answer so far; this is a toughie. There were many statutes issued by VA in 1779 that effected Kentucky County. But, there was one specifically that opened the "door", in a much easier way, for Virginians to make it to Kentucky County. It didn't involve land grants or anything to do with citizens having land in the county. But, without this, the settlement in Ky County would have been much more difficult and likely many settlers could not have made it into what became the Commonwealth of KY. See you tomorrow with more Hart Co deaths. 3. I admit my mistakes!!! On the puzzler yesterday .... I made a boo-boo. When I sent Charles Hartley the puzzler for posting to the board, I changed, accidentally, the date this event took place. I have begged him on bended knee to correct the date on the site but am also going to post it here. The year was 1779,. NOT 1799! Makes a really big difference!! I'm getting my new glasses today or tomorrow - maybe that will help! 1. WHAT'S COMING ON KYRESEARCH
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. Just a heads up for your information. This Thursday and the following Thursday, I will be posting a 2-part series on Hening's Statutes of VA ... which had a lot to say about the county of Kentucky. These statutes were used as the basis for our early KY laws and there are some interesting statutes in the VA records including forming of Kentucky County VA, payment in land there for the soldiers and officers of the Rev War, the establishment of Boonesboro and Louisville - and some special notations about the Virgnians who had already settled in this "dangerous land" facing attacks by the Indians and their needs. Then for the next three weeks I'm running a "mini series" on Miss Jennie Wiley of VA and Johnson Co KY. If you're over 60, you might remember the very old black and white movie serial, "The Perils of Pauline." Well, no one faced perils like Jennie Wiley. This goes back to the earliest fort days in Kentucky (still a county of VA) - her capture by the Indians and her 11 month attempt at escape. We have the Cherokee, Shawnee, Wyandot and other tribes all banded together determined to make her a nice Indian wife or teacher of the wives of the chief. And what she lost would bring tears to the most hard- hearted. After working on Jennie's story, I cannot fathom what the early settlers went through, especially those who were captured by the native Americans. Whether you have any connections to way off Johnson County - or are a Wiley descendant - or have no connection at all, I think you'll want to read Jennie's story; it'll make you thankful that we didn't live in the 1770's- 1780's in the wilderness of Kentucky. 1. IN CLOSING 12 JUNE 2006 - PUZZLER
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. Good morning! A hectic one here with a heavy schedule. I hope you're learning from the pension applications - it is interesting to know what the old veterans owned and sometimes what "desperate" shape they were in. This morning's post - two vets, in the 60's --- due to age can't work much, fatigue, shoulder and back pain. Well, maybe I should have applied!!! It was illegal for the soldier to dispose of property or try to hide his assets before applying for a pension and they wanted their application to indicate why they needed assistance. Thus the wives are decrepit, the children unable to work, the horse broken down, the land 3rd rate (the lowest of the land classifications) .....and many aches and pains. One of the Gorin soldiers of the Civil War applied for a pension; I obtained his military papers from National Archives many years ago. There were over 300 pages and by the time the file ended; he had 20-30 diseases, had driven the county clerk I am sure quite crazy with his almost daily petitions for increased pension. He had a large family; the battle he was in was fought literally in his front yard, but he kept trying for more money. He had about 5 doctors in two counties attesting to his condition. Pensions were not much and most of the veterans honestly deserved them. But it is interesting to see what they claimed! Charlie has put the weekly puzzler on the website - this one might be a little more difficult but something that Kentucky researchers need to know! Give it a try by clicking on the URL in my signature line called gensoup. I'll be back tomorrow with a Monroe Co post - and now, I'm tracking one my daughter's flights to Salt Lake City for a photography symposium there - technology is great when you can see a simulation of where they are, altitude, speed, etc! Thanks to one of our listers, I have found hundreds more of biographies on our KY ancestors in MO, many of whom were from Barren Co and adjacent counties covered on this list. I'll be posting them to the KYBIOGRAPHIES list along with the other bios I post daily. Thanks for the good reports on the tip I passed on Friday about increasing the size of the print on your emails - hear that it also works when reading the census records and other records on line. If your mouse doesn't have a center button, it won't work of course. See you tomorrow! 3. The site is going to be returning. With so many hits yesterday after the write-up in Rootsweb Review, the hosting company suspended the account. We're working the issue and will have it back up as soon as we can. 1. Non-genealogy - need larger print?

    3. From: LARGE PRINT - Finally a useful e-mail! Hello to all, This really works, give it a try..............Finally an email that i will be able to read lmao Maybe everyone else already knows this, but just in case here it is... Now, this is not genealogy, but it is such a blessing to my eyesight when I receive tiny printing in emails (with one good eye, one so-so eye!). I tried it and it works and I betcha that it will be a help to some of you on the list. This was sent to me by one of our listers ... Larger Print. If you hold down the Ctrl key on your key board and turn the small wheel in the middle of your mouse, the print size will change - it will either get larger or smaller - depending on which way you turn the wheel. Wondrous. Maybe this will help! You can try it on this email and see if it works for you.
