    1. PLANE CRASH IN LEXINGTON KY
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. As most of you have heard today, a Conair (Delta) flight crashed after takeoff at the Lexington Airport. Apparently, but not confirmed, the pilot somehow took off from the wrong runway, a 3,000+ foot one used only in daytime for general aviation, instead of the 7,000 ft runway. No reports have been issued as to the dead as many family members have not been notified, but 49 were killed; one flight attendant (not a steward) is in critical condition and has been in surgery at the U of K Hospital. They have only released the names of the pilots and stewardess and one couple - a basketball player who returned home and was married last night to a Parsley girl. All air deaths are scary - as are any accidents where a great number of people are killed; this one hit home as this is the exact flight my newly wed daughter and her husband took from Atlanta to Lexington on the 9th. We have family flying today to London .... and as a former pilot, I know the risks. But, we are all mourning the loss of lives this morning and send our love and prayers to the families. And for all you in the now tropical storm path - wherever it might be - that it will not upgrade to a hurricane again! 1. FUNERAL OF JOSEPH ANTHONY "JAYBIRD" LOGSDON
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. I just posted the obituary of Joseph Anthony "Jaybird" LOGSDON who died here Saturday, 19 Aug 2006. Mr. Logsdon was born 10 Oct 1959 and was the son of the late Joseph Andrew and Hattie Pearl Gulley Logsdon. Something made Mr. Logsdon's funeral noteworthy here & happened Wednesday. As I was coming home from running errands Wed, I turned behind Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home and saw a red horse-drawn wagon sitting at the back of the funeral home parking lot. A few hours later, this same wagon stopped in front of my house with the driver talking to my neighbor across the street, pulled by two beautiful palomino horses. I went outside to see the horses and nodded to the driver and his wife and they went on their way. Later, on my way to church, I noted the wagon across the street from Hatcher and Saddler and a horse trailer in which the horses had been loaded. I wondered why the wagon and horses were by Hatcher and Saddler and in last night's paper, received my answer. As reported in the Glasgow Daily Times, Joseph Logsdon never wanted to ride in a hearse. So family members came up with an alternate means to take his remains to the cemetery. His casket was loaded onto a horse-drawn wagon for the journey from Hatcher and Saddler to the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Logsdon loved horses and rode frequently with his son. So a friend of Mr. Logsdon's was called and agreed to bring his wagon to the funeral home. Ricky Cary and his wife Anita hitched up the horses by Hatcher and Saddler and led the procession to the cemetery. Also with the casket was Mr. Logsdon's riding saddle and cowboy hat. In the days of yore, this would have been a common occurence but in the year 2006, it was a touching tribute by a son for his father. The picture appeared on the front page of the Times last night, but is not shown on their on-line edition. 1. MY APPOLOGIES
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. As you may have noted, I have not been able to post anything to this list since Monday. I have been working with the Help Desk at rootsweb but they didn't solve the problem. I finally figured it out on my own due to total frustration. The South-Central-Kentucky list, KYBIOGRAPHIES and KYRESEARCH are very old lists, pre rootsweb into rootsweb over 10 years ago. These lists were set up differently from what the newer lists are - they never required the -L to be part of the address. With all the changes going on, no one informed me that now I have to have that -L in the address. I have been sending msgs but they have come back to me saying that the list didn't exist. I started playing around with them, put an -L in the address and they were delivered. Now, the fun part. After these lists are "migrated" to the new system of some time (the migration was stopped and the previous schedule no longer applies) ... it will revert back to not having to put the -L in the address - just like it has been for 10 yrs. I'll not know until I see if the msg is delivered or bounced back to me. So - I'm sorry that there have been no posts. I just sent out the Monroe Co and Allen Co post and will do Hart Co deaths later this afternoon. 1. Regan, Reagan, Regin, Riggins families
    2. Does anyone have records of a family named Regin, Reagan, Rigin, Riggins or some logical variant in Barren County about 1808? I am trying to identify the Betsy Regin and William Morrel whose marriage bond is dated 13 June 1808. The bond is clearly signed Wm. Morrel -- not Murrel -- though I am careful about drawing hard conclusions from spellings. Betsy's last name looks to me to be spelled Regin, though it could also be Rigin in this document. Jessee Harrison was a bondsman. I have a William Morrel who moved to Jackson County, Tennessee about this time. He would have been a widow about 55-60 years old in 1808 so if he is the William Morrel of the bond, it was most likely a second marriage for both people. Betsy might be the widow of a Regin. ( I have seen a printed record of the marriage of Wm. Morrel to Patsy Riggin on Jan 4, 1807 but I have not found documentation of that date or first name.) As to William Morrel, I am aware of the family of Samuel and Susannah Murrel in Barren County that includes a William Murrell whose marriage bond to Nancy Nunnally is dated 5 November 1832. For the record, the signatures on the two bonds are completely different. I would very much appreciate help with these families. John Newton Morrel morcor@comcast.net

    1. LIST CHANGES
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. Just a little note about the changes at rootsweb which I'm still trying to weed through. As I noted yesterday, every subscriber to rootsweb lists was supposed to have received a message indicating that the lists would be "migrated" from the SmartList software which has been used for years to the Mailman software. The lists are being moved over alphabetically; those rootsweb lists beginning with A and B and I think C have been moved already. Of course there are glitches along the way; it is a massive undertaking. It should not make much difference to the subscribers - the main thing you might notice is that it is no longer necessary to put the "L" in the address name. As I noted, you never had to do with on the South-Central-Kentucky list as it didn't need it - but to post to the KYBARREN you did. When this list is migrated, you will only need to send the emails to KYBARREN@rootsweb.com. The schedule for moving the lists is shown below - but, the schedule is modified if there is a problem. All the K's, which would include our KYBARREN, KYRESEARCH & KYBIOGRAPHIES - Aug 23rd. The S's which would include SOUTH-CENTRAL-KENTUCKY - Aug 29th. So, if mail is delayed to you around these dates, they are in the process of being moved to the new software and I am trying to work my way through the administsrative changes I must make (you get the easy part!). I hope everything will go smoothly but hang in there! Thanks for all of you have subbed to Research after my post of yesterday. These posts will be in outline form and the ideas and tips are from 1,000 researchers who were queried as to how they handled various aspects of research, links to other articles on the subjects by the experts, reasons behind each step of research. It is quite good and hopefully will give us all a fresh look at what we've been doing and maybe some things we never thought of. The first post will be next Thursday and will run for several weeks. If you've never looked at the past 600 tips I've made over the years, click on the URL in my signature line called SCKY links, then click on research. Again, if you are already receiving the Thursday tips from me, you do not need to subscribe again. Thanks so much and I'll see you Monday! 1. CHANGES IN ROOTSWEB LISTS
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. As you know, rootsweb will be undergoing some major changes this month. I got behind on reading about all the changes while out of town and am trying to play catch up now. You all received a notice from rootsweb as to this change. For the most part, you won't have to do too much - or anything. One of the changes is doing away with the -L having to appear in list names - this would include the KYBARREN list but not SOUTH-CENTRAL- KENTUCKY, KYRESEARCH or KYBIOGRAPHIES as they are some of the oldest lists on rootsweb and didn't require the extra "L". I have printed off 22 pages of changes that do affect the list admins ... and some I will understand better when the lists are "migrated" to a new system. If I disappear for a day or so, it's likely because I'm trying to learn what to do!!! The lists are being moved over to the new system on different days so it won't happen all at once. So bear with us as we muddle through the changes .... 1. HART CO - DEATHS - LIGHT THROUGH LOCK(E)
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. If any of you see an error, please post the correction to the list. As I have mentioned in the past, the physicians were required to annually submit to the County Clerk all the births and deaths that they had attended. These were often on tiny scraps of paper which were then entered into large ledger books. At times the physicians forgot to write down an event, misspelled a name or got the date wrong, or the County Clerk wrote the information down wrong. Then when I transcribed the information from the microfilmed copy of the ledger - there were times when the entry was smeared, writing impossible to decipher etc. LIGHT: Jacob, 59 years, 26 days, blacksmith, married, born VA, s/o Eber & Elizabeth, appoplexy (so spelled, then crossed out), 14 Sept 1856 Sally, 57 years, 2 days, married, born Barren Co, d/o John J & Elizabeth LEECH (? on spelling again as there was an ink blob over part of the name), cancer, 12 Dec 1856.
