    1. [SCKY] MT PISGAH BAPTIST CHURCH 1900-1962
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. For your information - I have just published Volume 2 of the minutes of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church which was also known early as the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Christ; later as just Mt. Pisgah Baptist. This church is located six miles northeast of Glasgow in the Slick Rock area. This was an interesting time frame for the church (1900-1962) as, up until the 1950's, flowery obituaries were included for members dying, called Resolutions of Respects. It normally gave the birth and death dates of the member and many kind comments about them. I have annotated this book with burial locations or obituaries on all but a few which I couldn't locate. Also, up until past the 1900 census some years, I attempted to identify the new members or deaths on the census records. If you would like to see the index of the book, please send me an email privately. There were many families there that are of interest to you I'm sure including: Abner, Arnold, Atnip, Billingsley, Bowles (many), Bray, Brown, Bryan, Bunch (lots), Davis, Deweese, Eubank, Faulkner, Fergkuson, Ferrell, Fields, Gooden (lots), Johnson, Lawson, Morton, Moss, Peers, Perkins (lots), Pickett, Reece, Shephard, Stephens, Taylor, Veluzat (lots), Wells, Willoughby, Worthington and many, many more. The index is in Word format and is 11 pages long. 3. Just a short note to wish you a Happy Halloween ... boo! The new computer desk is installed; only took 7 hours - everything is scattered from the old desk and I am totally disorganized. I'm learning to type lower as this desk has a pull out drawer for the keyboard and mouse .... and I've had 4 hours sleep. If I let any typos get thru, my apologies! See you tomorrow with another post from Allen Co Rev War applications. 1. [SCKY] WILLIAM MARTIN OF BARREN COUNTY
    2. Carol Krajnik
    3. Hello listers, Is anyone researching the WILLIAM MARTIN mentioned in the list of Quarter Sessions sent out by Sandi today? I would be interested in learning more about this WILLIAM MARTIN. I have a brick wall that might come tumbling down with the proper information. My William Martin showed up in Union County KY in the 1820 and 1830 census and died sometime before 1836. He was married to a Sarah (LNU). Any help would be appreciated. Carol Pulliam Krajnik

    1. [SCKY] Wakefield, early Barren County
    2. Jim Hale
    3. Thanks, Sandi, for your update on the full name for Judge Wakefield. So the plot thickens. While it is disappointing that Judge Allen M. Wakefield doesn't appear on any other records of the era, I can't say that missing people are unusual. I lost my whole family, and 12 others, in 1930 when the censustaker misinterpreted the wrong railroad crossing for the enumeration district boundary. Makes for a good family story now. However, my interest in the Wakefields of the SCKY area is still high. Maybe there's two families that I have to look at instead of one -- I revised my subject line. So I still appeal to anyone for information about what may have happened to the families of Allen M. Wakefield, William Wakefield, or any other Wakefield in the early 1800's SCKY. Facts or family stories welcome. Thanx...Jim Hale

    3. I'm not sure when it will happen, maybe this afternoon or one afternoon this week - but if I disappear, don't worry if I don't reply. Finally, my 17-yr old computer desk has met its match and I purchased a larger one which is resting in a long box on my living room floor. My new son-in-law and my dau are coming over - maybe this afternoon, maybe later this week and we're disconnecting everything. Oh how much paperwork and "stuff" a genealogist can accumulate in 17 yrs. It is NOT going to be a quick project; 26 pages of instructions so if I "fail to keep my appointed rounds" as they say in the old church records ... I'll be back - hopefully!!! If anyone locally needs a computer desk, yell - I've got to put this one someplace and other than the finish being off the work surface, it has a few more years of life left - free even! <grin> Sandi Sandi's Puzzlers: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gensoup/gorin/puz.html SCKY Links: http://www.public.asu.edu/~moore/Gorin.html GGP: http://ggpublishing.tripod.com/

    1. [SCKY] Judge Wakefield, early Barren County
    2. Jim Hale
    3. Sandi just began posting a series dealing with early Barren County Court of Quarter Sessions. In the first posting was the name of Judge WAKEFIELD, one of the earliest judges. I've seen his name mentioned in other historical accounts of early Barren County history (for instance, Gorin, "Times of Long Ago" and Goode & Gardner, "Barren County Heritage"), but have never seen the mention of his first name. He is always referred to as Judge WAKEFIELD. I've recently become interested in Judge WAKEFIELD for a reason other than his capacity as a justice. Let me outline some possibly related information and ask if any of our list subscribers can confirm or expand on the WAKEFIELD name in the early Barren County context. ---------- - Judge WAKEFIELD is acknowledged as a judge in Barren County around the beginning of the 1800s. - A William WAKEFIELD was given a 200 acre federal land grant in 1805 along the east fork of Sugar Creek (later to become part of Monroe County) - Only one WAKEFIELD family is enumerated in the 1810 federal census for Barren County. Wm WAKEFIELD, males 10-15 (3), males 26-44 (1 - this is likely Wm.), females under 10 (5), females 26-44 (1 - likely wife of Wm.) - The only other Kentucky WAKEFIELDs in 1810 reside in Bardstown, about 100 miles north of Glasgow. Relationship, if any, to the Wm. WAKEFIELD of Barren County is unknown. - A William WAKEFIELD appears in the Kentucky Detached Militia during the War of 1812. He served as 2nd Major immediately under Lieutenant Colonel Gabriel Slaughter in Slaughter's Regiment between November 10, 1814 and May 10, 1816. ---------- The obvious questions I pose for comment or discussion... Is Judge WAKEFIELD of early Barren County the same William WAKEFIELD mentioned in the other records -- land grant, census, War of 1812? Are they all one in the same? The timing is correct. William WAKEFIELD does not appear in the 1820 census and I can't locate him after his military service terminates in 1816. Also, what happened to WAKEFIELD's family? The Bardstown WAKEFIELDs seem relatively stable based on the census records for 1810 and 1820. An apparently different William WAKEFIELD is in Bardstown, based on ages from the census. Would appreciate any comments on this topic. Thanx...Jim Hale

    3. I'll answer this to the list. There was only one Wakefield listed in the early tax records - William Wakefield who is only shown in 1807. I'm wondering if, when Franklin Gorin, penned the newspaper articles which became Times of Long Ago, his name had been forgotten (1870's). However, his name was Allen M. Wakefield. I cheated and looked ahead in the quarter sessions book! He is not shown on any of the tax records here or in Warren Co (our parent co) so appears to have lived in another county and just served this circuit.
