    1. [SCKY] Lunacy
    2. In Sandi's REV WAR APPLICATIONS post I noticed: James RADFORD was afflicted with lunacy; Would anyone be interested in sharing family skeletons like Lunacy? Maybe we can help trace it through some lines. There are many different causes of mental illness, but in our family we recently learned that we have a recessive gene that will cause severe mental retardation...or lunacy, if not identified and treated immediately and for life. This metabolic disorder is called PKU. In Butler Co., KY during the 1800s I have found descendants from the Phelps and Johnson lines who were deemed "idiots" by the Court in Butler Co., KY. I wonder if they had PKU. Anyone else curious about mental illness in your family? Mary ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. 3. I would suggest that you request a copy of her death certificate below: ROWE ESTA L 024 HART 06-14-1928 030 14907 1928 She is listed on most records (census, birth records of children) as Waddle. I am attaching the website for Chester Ward who makes copies of older death certificates for a nominal fee ($1). I have used his services for years and have always been pleased. http://chesterward.freeyellow.com/index.html Do you need a pic of your grandparents tombstones? I looked them up and found they are buried in Munfordville Municipal Cemetery which is within 3 miles of my residence. I would be glad to take one and scan it to you, if you need it. 3. I'm sending this back to the list as some here might be able to comment. I found this census record in 1910: 1910 Federal Census: Kentucky, Hart County, Munfordville, District 65, Page 29B household 55/58 Crain, John W. - head, M W 60, MO KY KY, farmer Crain, Susan - wife, F W 53, md34yrs, 11 children/5 living, KY KY KY Crain, Eddie - son, M W 24, single, KY MO KY, farm laborer Crain, Emma - daughter, F W 16, single, KY MO KY Crain, Maxey - son, M W 14, KY MO KY, farm laborer Crain, Birdie E. - daughter, F W 12, KY MO KY Waddle, Estelle L. - granddaughter, F W 6, KY KY KY This might be Melvin's grandmother. According to the 1900 census, John and Susan Crain had a daughter named Millie who was born in Feb 1884, so she would be old enough to be Estelle's mother. Any comments? 3. Just since you're such a good group! It appears that the post didn't make it to the list. And I gave such a wonderful intro too! Metcalfe Co was formed of course in 1860 and the vital statistics were kept on births for the following years only: 1860, 1861, 1874, 1875, 1876, 1877, 1906, 1907. It included 1,079 births; 238 marriages and 296 deaths ... of which I'm covering the births here. These vitals are only available on microfilm which I transcribed about 10 yrs ago. There are likely errors - ranging from the doctor writing the wrong information to the clerk not being able to read his writing when recording in the big old books, to bad microfilm, to my making a mistake trying to read the clerk's handwriting! 3. I've had several queries. My first post on Metcalfe Co posts are not in Archives - some of the Archives are having problems and nothing is getting posted. If any of you still have my first post - would you post it to the list for those who didn't get it or can't find it. If no one did - something really got goofed up and I'll fall back and punt and re-do it - I emptied my trash bin so don't have a copy myself. Thanks much!
