    1. [SCKY] FAMILYROOTS RADIO
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. Now there is FamilyRoots Radio. http://www.familyrootsradio.com/index.html This is a freebie. You can download the program or listen online. You do NOT have to own an iPod to listen. You can play them online, on your computer, your portable music player, etc. I went to the site and then linked on to the site where yesterday, George Eastman was speaking. The live broadcast is at 1 pm every Thursday, but you can listen to previous programs. Rather neat! Wit: JOHN GOODWIN, JOHN ELDER, GEO (X) GREEN, JOHN McILROY. 1-2-1804" (from Sandi Gorin's abstracts of the Warren Co KY Deed Bk B, her pg. 21). I am seeking the parents of Lucy JONES, wife of George GREEN who witnessed this deed, and think it possible that she was a sister of Freeman JONES. Does anyone on the list know whether Lucy's parents have been found? (George and Lucy are my direct line.) George Green and Freeman Jones were both Revolutionary War soldiers from Rutherford Co NC. George and Lucy were m. in Rutherford Co., 1784. Freeman Jones and Christian/Christina PARRIS were m. in Rutherford Co., 1785. James Green probably the brother of George) stood surety on their bond. Any guidance on these early Warren County families would be very helpful. Thanks, Donna (Lexington KY)

    3. Well, as you can tell, I made a post before my morning cup of coffee and you were blessed with a biography for Harrison Co KY which was meant to go to my KYBIOGRAPHIES list. Just wanted to keep you on your toes! I also started a 2-3 part series on KYRESEARCH this morning on the horrors of the Civil War medically with some information on the surgeons and medical conditions found. Next week will be a look at some of the medicines used and what faced the soldier in the way of treatments. Now - I do have a special announcement to make. Before having a lot of problems with my email yesterday, a lady by the name of Margaret Gagliardi <megsgeneo@gmail.com> gave me permission to run a series on the SCKY list and in our historical society quarterly, Traces, that I think will be of great interest to many of you. I haven't had time to read her contribution all the way through (thanks to conferring with my ISP), but what I have read is wonderful. It is a book written by James Bosley CARTER and involves originally the counties covered on this list (primarily Monroe and Cumberland), written when James was 76 years old. It is a treasure trove of information of life ... I'm not even going to give you any details right now but even if you don't tie in to the Carter line (and many of you do), I think his story will hold your interest. I am going to start his story next Tuesday in place of the newspaper tidbits; there are 58 pages thus it will take some time to complete the book unless I feel highly motivated and post more than once a week! Here is a little genealogical information: James Bosley Carter was born 15 Oct 1836 in Cumberland Co KY. He died 2 Dec 1916 at the Soldier's Home in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co MN of arterio schelorisis. He was buried 4 Dec 1916 at the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis; the son of Green Carter (1808-ca 1843) and Francis HAWKINS (ca 1810-1886). James married 27 Apr 1859 in Boonville, Warrick Co IN to Nancy Eliza Brown. She was born 20 Sept 1832 near Boonville; died 28 Feb 1925 in Minneapolis; buried same; the daughter of Daniel Hare BROWN (1813-1890) and Rebecca Isabella M DENTON (1812-1859) James and Nancy's children were not born in KY but included: Robert Benton Carter (15 Mar 1860 Boonville - 22 Nov 1938 Phoenix, Maricopa, AZ); Frances I (5 Apr 1862 Evansville IN - 8 Feb 1943 Minneapolis); Albert Smith Carter (30 Mar 1864 Warrick Co IN - 12 Aug 1932 Orange, Orange Co CA); Edwin "Eddie" Carter (abt 1867 IA - bef 1916 possibly Shenandoah, Page, IA) and Mary Emma (8 Oct 1870 Shenandoah - 16 Apr 19323 Minneapolis MN). I'll give you more information as we go along, but next Tuesday we'll start on James's story with the spellings shown as he wrote them, his adventures in the Civil War ... I think you will enjoy this and I am deeply indebted to Margaret for allowing me to share this. Back tomorrow - have a prosperous genealogically blessed day! 1. [SCKY] METCALFE CO BIRTHS - CALHOON THROUGH CLARK
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. Continuing our series on Metcalfe Co births from the vital statistics that were kept for certain years. In Metcalfe Co, these births were recorded for 1860, 1861, 1874-1877, 1907 and 1907 - 1,079 births. Though we wish we had them all, we should be thankful that even this many were preserved! Again, as noted previously, the forms filled out by the County Clerk from the doctor's records varied from year to year and there are times when all the information was not filled out. What I am showing is what was entered ... knowing that there are errors likely due to the doctor providing incorrect information, the clerk not being able to read the doctor's handwriting, the transcriber (me) not being able to read the Clerk's handwriting or just a bad microfilmed copy where some might be faded out, or there was a cigar burn on the original page or a cup of coffee dumped on the page! But, this is a wonderful starting place for the researcher and possibly the only source we can find for these early births. The mother's maiden name is often shown and the location of birth of the parents will be shown if available. 1. [SCKY] BARREN CO - ORIGINAL LAND ENTRIES - PART 1
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. In 1991, I was searching through old records in the Barren Co courthouse attic and found hundreds of little scraps of paper which were original land entries of Barren Co KY. They ran from 1801 through 1840. They were little scraps of paper, some only a couple of inches long. I photocopies these while most were still readable - many were written on blue paper and the ink had turned to a rusty brown which was fast deteriorating. I also located a list dating back to the early days of the names and certificate #'s of the early settlers as they entered land. The originals are now protected and not available for research. Remember, there were already people living here prior to 1801! For the first part of this series, I am going to list the names and dates along.. This list has no other information, but hopefully, I located most of the actual entries and will be sharing more information on them later - which sometimes showed the location and acreage. I would recommend holding on to this preliminary list as many of the actual land entries are not dated as they were originally bundled together by month and years - but over the years had become separated as the old clerks and individuals searched through them. The dates shown in the list to follow was the montly meeting of the Barren County Clerk as I've shared before in the Order Books. These are numbered consecutively - I do not know if this was the certificate # or just the number the clerk placed on them on the list. This list can also give you a clue when more than one individual with the same surname appeared at the same time - could be a family relationship. Names spelled as shown. January Court 1801: #'s 1 through 6: John Nevill, Francis Lattimore, Joseph Jolly, John Gates, Samuel Gates, John Kirtley March Court 1801: #'s 7through 45: Ezekiel Shirley, Saml Marrs, John Watkins, Richard Garnett, Alexander McKay, William Smith, Hugh Smith, Job Jenkins, Michael Simpson, Thomas Jones, Jessie Jones, Thomas Curd, Christopher Howard, Michael Harlow, Wm Summers, Hopsin Kincade, Wm Smith, Charles Demint, John Bennet, Jas H Rice, Robt Stockton Sr, John Montgomery, Moses Carrick, John Harris, Thomas Rowsy, William Harriis, Francis Harris, Wm Speakman, James Tomlinson, Joseph Wilson, Robert True, Solomon Dickerson, James Edgar, Joseph Gist, Jacob Grider, Elenor Kirkpatrick, Abraham Kirkendall, Kinsey Tudder, David Haiden May Court 1801: #46 thru 109: Robert Anderson, Thomas Sullivan, James Tomlinson, Joshua Pennington, John Smith, John Mulkey, James Perry, Daniel Pennington, Newberry Stockton, Moses Dooley, Robert Stockton Jr, Anderson Goforth, Philip Mulkey, Wm H Logan, Tho Morris, Aron Smith, Susanna Cummins, Abraham Kerkendall, William Cockran, Tho Bluky [likely Blakey/Blakley], Tho Smith, Henry Bushong, Elijah Gates, Tho Clelland, Jesse Davis, Jesse Terry, Ambros Hunt, Joseph Scott, Henry Tuder, Josiah Conger, Stephen Cole, John Hardy, Robert Runnian, Barefoot Runnian, Wm Runnian, Robert Kirby, Michael Runnian, Wm Prockter, Abner Dooly, Moses Dooly Jr, Jessee Temple, George Dooly, Clemme Hill, David Lyen, Henry Cook, Dennis McColly, John Birks Sr, William Edard, Richd Scags, Jeremiah Tryon, Isaac dale, David Lyen, James White, Moses Sherley, Jacob Gibson, William Dale, Wm Dunken, Saml Brents, Isaac Robertson, James Allen, Tho Smart, Matthias Lair, Abraham Noris/Voris, Samuel P Malone.
