He died in Edmonson Co sometime between 1847 - 1849. It is possible that Smith Hampton could have been related to Jesse Hampton who lived in Barren Co. Jesse was married to Sarah Chastain. 1. [SCKY] TIP OF THE WEEK
    2. Sandi Gorin
    3. This is an obvious tip but might help locate our ancestors. If we're pretty sure we know he or she was in a particular county but can't find him listed in the index - do a door by door search of the county. Now, this might take you a little longer, but as we know, indexes have built in problems. They were prepared by someone who had the same trouble as we do in reading the handwriting (many times indexed by someone who has no knowledge of the county at all); the microfilm might have been faded, had coffee spilled over that line - who knows! In looking for my own mother, I couldn't find her in the 1920 census and I know exactly where she and her family lived. She had been indexed as a male and her name so clobbered that I never would have found her. To make it more interesting, her brother was indexed as a female and his masculine first name turned into a female name by the addition of an "a" to his first name. So - take the time to really read these census records; it can pay off! Mr. Iverson BOWEN, the oldest citizen of Hart county, died at his home, three miles south of Hammonsville, at the advanced age of 107 years, having been born in 1790. His relatives say it is on record in Campbellsville that he voted for James Monroe for President in 1816. He had been an invalid for thirty years, and his physician says that he had fallen a victim to grip every year since it has been in the county. (3 Mar 1897). Metcalfe Co: Mr. Samuel HUFFMAN died at his home at Summer Shade on last Saturday evening, after a long and painful illness of consumption. Mr. Huffman was a devout and earnest Christian, a successful school teacher and one of the most promising young men of Metcalfe County. He was universally beloved by all that know him, and the news of his death will be received with feelings of sadness. He was soon to have been married to one of Metcalfe's most worthy and prominent young ladies. The funeral took place at the home on last Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large company of sorrow stricken friends and relatives. (14 Apr 1897). Mr. Sylvester NUNN, a student of the A. and M. College from Lexington, died a few days ago in that city from a complication of measles and fever. The young man was a most promising boy, a son of the late J. B. Nunn, and a grandson of the late Winchester Nunn. The remains were brought back to Metcalfe county for interment. (3 Mar 1897). Mr. Jas. BILLON died at his home, near Edmonton, last Sunday. He had been in bad health for some time. At the time of his death he was seventy years old, was one of the Metcalfe county's best citizens and leaves an wife and several children to mourn his death. (3 Mar 197) Monroe Co: Mr. Bethel CHAPEL, one of the most prominent young men of Monroe county, died at his home in Tompkinsville last Saturday. Mr. Chapel was totally blind, a son of a wealthy citizen of Monroe, and owned considerable property. He owned the Monroe County News printing establishment of Tompkinsville, and was quite a prominent and well known young man. (3 Mar 1897). 2. Denison line. Do you have a connect to German Denison who married Kathleen Hardy? Have been looking for his parents for quite awhile. He would have lived in Barren or Hart Co. They eventually moved to Louisville. German had some type of dibilitating illness most of his life. ---- [email protected] wrote:

Alexander Ford states in the census that his father, Peter, was born in Virginia. I believe there could be a connection with the Joseph Ford who marries Lucinda Autry in Barren county and also John Ford who held adjoining land until Peter was cut off in Metcalfe County. .Children of Peter and Susanna Edward, daughter of Alexander Edwards; an unknown male born 1794-1804, a son Peter who died early or a brother?, Absolom c 1816, Catherine c 1810-16, Charlotte, 1818, Alexander 1821, Martha 1823, Susanna 1824, America 1825. Peter also had a female, of the correct age, who could be his Mother in the 1820 census, Susanna's mother was deceased by that time. A Joshua Ford wanders in and out of Barren who could have been related father.
