Hi Rose, Sending you two jpg files of the farm in a seperate email. De Rust is just off the maps to the North. Interestingly, on the 2nd jpg( which is a blow up from the first), shows that the stream was known as Marnewicksrivier, and that there are ruins and a grave. Have fun! -- Paul Tanner-Tremaine Hampshire, England email : eighteentwenty@btinternet.com website : www.1820Settlers.com ________________________________ From: Rose McArthur <rose.mus@hotmail.co.uk> To: "south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com" <south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, 30 October 2012, 10:07 Subject: Re: [ZA-EC] Re Farm maps Hi Joy, I hope I'm not being too optimistic. My husband's gggg grandfather (J.C. Marneweck) started a wine farm called Welgevonden near De Rust (35 kilometres from Oudtshoorn) at the end of the 18th Century. I believe it was still in the family by the mid 1800s and perhaps even later. It has variously been referred to as : "On the place Welgevonden situated in the Field Cy of Before Oliphant River""The farm Welgevonden was on the Olyphants Rivier near the Cammannassieberge. It was later consigned to the George district and finally to the Oudtshoorn District" Is it possible to pinpoint the farm from the above? Many thanks, Rose > > > > Shooh Joy!
