    1. [ZA-EC] Graham's Town Electoral Roll 1853 (Cape Frontier Times) A-C
    2. Sue Mackay
    3. The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that my last posting from the Cape Frontier Times only covered July and August 1853, as opposed to the whole quarter. This is because the newspaper of 30 August 1853 contained a whole page listing those who had registered to vote in Graham's Town. I thought I would post these separately in chunks, and then add any extracts for September to the following quarter once I reach them. To avoid mistakes I am going steadily through the list, so bear with me. Be aware that the list is alphabetical only up to a point, ie all the As are together but they are not alphabetical within that letter. I have typed the list as given rather than attempting to put it in alphabetical order - the only changes I have made are to put the surname in upper case and to add a full stop after each name. This is in case the formatting loses the line breaks, as sometimes seems to happen with list mail. Once I have transcribed the entire list it will, of course, appear on the eGGSA site in its entirety as part of the Cape Frontier Times transcriptions, probably as a table. 1. [ZA-EC] Cape Town undertakers/funeral directors (J.S. Hoeg)
    2. John Wynne
    3. Hi. Does anyone recognise a firm of Cape Town undertakers or funeral directors called J.S. Hoeg? Their name was listed on a 1948 burial record for Maitland Cemetery of someone who died at Sea Point. I know it's a long time, but was wondering if they were still in business. My grandfather died in New York State in 1957, and the funeral director had masses of information in his records, regarding employment, cause of death, relatives, immigration history, and who attended his funeral. I know I got lucky with that one, but would be keen to find out if the Cape Town company still exists and, if so, does it have any records still. Best wishes, John Wynne Cheshire, UK
