Good Morning to all the Listers, I hope all you Xmas shopping has been done with the larder stocked and sufficient medicinal liquids obtained to ward off those nasty ailments, such as the cramp in the hand when it is not holding a round object. Heather, over the waters in Wales, has sent me a number of family gravestone pictures which has got me comparing the engraving on the head stones in Wales and those of ours in SA. Would anyone know if there was a specific style used in the early to mid 1800's in England and SA, to engrave the information. The writing seems to be "smoother" and more rounded than ours, which are more difined with sharper edges. Would the type of stone used in any way influence how the lettering is formed and shaped? There also seems to be the practise of including a number of family names on a stone who are not necessarily buried there. Was this a common practise during those years? If there are any stone masons on the lists could they cast some light on this? May you all have a blessed Christmas and may your stocking be filled with all things good and healthy. To each of you, a merry, merry Christmas. Regards, Rod g
