Hello Listers, What does one do when you hit a brick wall? You either get a ladder to climb over it or you try and hammer it down! I have tried to climb over it however the brick wall seems higher than most and it is missing church records that seems to be the barrier. I have not been able to trace the Congregational Church Records for Port Elizabeth or Uitenhage and these hold I believe the key to the door (instead of having to climb over the wall or knock it down it would be easier to go through a door!) - quite simply it is tragic that these records are not available for people to get the relevant information from. I notice that early records for some denominations seems very scant and I wondered whether the ministers just did not bother to keep records or whether they are perhaps lying on some dusty shelf somewhere? I am looking for the Dutch Reform Church records for the period around 1820-1850 for the Uitenhage area as well - they are not on the LDS site. Where would we be if it were not for the LDS diligently collecting this data and with the assistance of those who so painstakingly transcribe them? Is there any kind lister out there who could take pity on me and share if they do have the records?? Looking forward to some positive interactions - I thank you in anticipation thereof! Kind regards Eleanor
