Hi, At last I have been able to fill in a lot of gaps with the help of Ellen Stanton & Malcolm Stevens transcribing the lists of the Death Certificates in recent weeks. What would we do without the hard work of our fellow listers. I'm not going to try to list you all.....you know who you are and how much we appreciate your wonderful work. I don't have the exact birth & death date for the eldest daughter, but I will hope to eventually find this too. I have a photograph of Aunt Lesley and my Grandmother, Clo as young girls in tennis outfits while pupil teachers. If anyone would like a copy please let me know. The information I now have on this family unit is as follows: Richard 'Allen' Knowlden TAINTON born 14 December 1861 Graham's Town, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope died 20 November 1905 Ward 1, Cathcart, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope married about 1885 St. Peter's Church, Cradock Amy Mary Rachel LLOYD born 22 March 1867 Graham's Town, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope died 1 July 1964 at the home of her daughter Thelia McCullough 116 Married Quarters, Marievale, near Nigel, Transvaal, Republic of South Africa. Allen died from Apoplexy (Stroke). Children: 1. Lesley Irene Lockington TAINTON born about 1889 Cradock, Eastern Cape of Good Hope died after 1973 probably in Benoni. She married John Self HUTTON, Snr. born 9 January 1887 Queenstown, Eastern Cape died 4 October 1948 Willowdene Nursing Home, Benoni, Transvaal Union of South Africa. They had 9 Children. 2. Chloris Ilva Hope Lockington TAINTON born 28 July 1890 East London, Eastern Cape died 2 November 1973 South Rand Hospital, South Hills, Johannesburg, Transvaal, Republic of South Africa married 20 August 1913 St. Boniface Church, Germiston, Transvaal, Union of South Africa. They had 5 children. 3. Reginald Herbert Warwick Lockington 'Reg' TAINTON born 21 February 1892 King William's Town, Eastern Cape of Good Hope died 8 July 1957 Far East Rand Hospital, Springs, Transvaal, Union of South Africa married Violet Susannah (Susan) 'Vi' EVANS at St. Mary's Church (the Cathedral), Johannesburg, Transvaal, Union of South Africa. They had a son and a daughter. 4. Richard Stanger TAINTON Born 19 August 1893 Keiskama Hoek, King William's Town, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope. He had a private Christening on the day he was born so I am presuming he died on the day he was born. Unfortunately he was born before Death Certificates became law. The Information on his Christening was provided by Jenn Lloyd. 5. Thelia Gwendoline Flora TAINTON born 18 April 1896 Komgha Ward 1, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope (calculated from Death Certificate). Died 31 May 1896 Komgha, Ward 1, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope. Information from Death Certificate provided by Malcolm Stevens. 6. Averell Robert Allen de Lisle TAINTON born 30 June 1898, Komgha Ward 1, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope (date calculated from Death Certificate) died 30 May 1900, Komgha Ward 1, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope. 7. Chesterfield DeLacey Grey 'Ches' TAINTON born 18 January 1901 Ward 1, Cathcart, Eastern Cape of Good Hope died 22 October 1976 Bedfordview, Transvaal, Republic of South Africa married Mary Gudrun Galeka Equatoria RAFFLE born 3 January 1902 on board the 'Galeka' at the Equator died after Nov 1973 Plettenberg Bay, Cape Province, Republic of South Africa. (She was known either as Aunt Equi or Aunt Leeka). They had 3 sons, all South African Airways pilots. 8. Allen Knowlden Hart TAINTON born 27 December 1905 Ward 1, Cathcart, Albany, Eastern Cape of Good Hope (5 weeks after the death of his father) Died 27 March 1937 Far East Rand Hospital, Springs, Transvaal, Union of South Africa. He was an underground miner. Unmarried. No Issue. He lived at 96a Kitzinger (Kilgour) Avenue, Brakpan, Transvaal, Union of South Africa (his mother's house). I'm delighted finally to have all the children listed correctly. I had though Averell was Avril and a girl! I thought Thelia's name was Thelma. I prefer Thelia. Aunt Dolly (Thelia Mary LEWIS from her second marriage to John Elias LEWIS) was obviously named after her infant sister. Best wishes, Tombi Peck
The TAINTON are connected very remotely to Doug , my husband. Urlyn TAINTON (d 1955) married Grace (Lassie) CURRIE d.o. William Paton CURRIE and Matilda VICKERS. Cousins of Doug's mother a Vickers. Lassie died in the USA 11963 Don't know how these connect to your thousands of Taintons, Tombi. Nice to be in touch again. Have a happy Christmas.
