To those who are transcribing from the Civil Death Certificate Lists, thank you so very much for your time & effort which is greatly appreciated. If I had uncapped access to the web, I would most certainly join the circle. I would like to mention, however, that skipping the mixed marriages is somewhat unfortunate. Manny of the immigrants, especially to the Cape, married coloured folk. Both my sons married coloured girls so here I have Hickley from Bredasdorp & Cape Town and Barreiro (originally from Spain) from Cape Town. And then there are the mixed Dyasons from Malmesbury. Hi Jenn This is something that has bothered me, particularly as I am concentrating on the Transkei, where I have noticed from details on death certificates that some of the "Mixed" folk were obviously connected to the "Europeans", eg same place of residence, same informant's signature. I've left out the mixed races simply because of the numbers involved, but I would prefer to include them, though it would slow down my contributions to the list. I am inclined to agree Jenn, especially since there is a definite increase in the numbers of people of colour who are now making enquiries about their heritage. I do realise that there is potential for error if the transcribers are not familiar with indigenous names, but I, for one, am very willing to assist with checking transcriptions before they are released to the lists.
