    3. Hi Jenn, His parents were William Carey HOBSON II and Elizabeth ROBERTS. He was a son of 1820 Settler David HOBSON and his wife Mary Ann ROBINSON (and not, note, of David's younger brother of the same name. i.e. William Carey HOBSON I). Elizabeth was a granddaughter of 1820 Settler Daniel ROBERTS (her father had the same name, i.e."Daniel") Regards, Peter ----- Original Message ----- From: "Graham and Jennifer Lloyd" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 07, 2014 8:46 AM Subject: [ZA-EC] HOBSON, Edmund Ernest Roberts > Hi > Can anyone give me the parents of this farmer of Aberdeen, born about 1863 > Cheers > Jenn > > > Graham & Jennifer Lloyd > [Genealogical & Historical Research] > Tel: +0027 (0)21 7974875 > Mobile: 0824037343 > email: [email protected] > www.southafricanfamily.com > > I'm not stuck, I'm Ancestrally challenged > > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Jennifer's query has brought to light an interesting difference of opinion. The 1820 website suggested by Shani Schreuder shows the HOBSON in question to be descended from 1820 Settler William Carey HOBSON and his wife Susannah BONNIN. (William Carey was the younger of the two HOBSON lads who came out with William SMITH's party). This is in conflict with :- a) Records contained in the HOBSON file in the 1820 Settlers' Memorial Museum (maybe now with Corey Library?) b) HOBSON genealogy compiled by Peter Smits. c) Heese & Lombard's South African Genealogies In my view the marriage of the HOBSON concerned to Elixabeth ROBERTS is definitive, but maybe this call for a true blue HOBSON researcher to step forward and resolve the matter.
