Portland Bentick Shortt of Natal, illegitimate son of Walter Bentinck Auditor General of the Cape and adopted by Frances Shortt and his wife Sarah Johanna Rosina Hugo,was my husbands G G Grandfather. Peter Philip’s British Residents at the Cape 1795-1819 reads “Her adopted son was Portland Bentinck, surnamed Shortt. Filed 18.8.21 ( MOOC 7/1/85-53)” Does anyone know how or where I can get a copy of this document. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
