    1. [ZA-EC] Bowker-Joplin or Bowker Joplin?
    2. rodg via
    3. Good Evening all, I have had another look at the BOWKER-JOPLIN marriage certificate and it looks as if the husband is Mitford Bowker JOPLIN. The way the 'r' is finished off on both the Bowker and Olver names is identical. Ellen your eyes should be used to reading this type of writing, what says you? Are there any Mitford, Bowker researchers who could verify this? 3. Rod, et al, I have been doing some 'digging' over the last couple of days trying to find where the Mitford and Bowker were added to the Joplin name. I think the marriage cert you refer to is correct; surname Joplin not Bowker-Joplin. If you look at his signature, there is a 'dash' there, but I don't think it was written. Dirty paper, or a slip of the pen? Jean Langford Joplin's headstone ( www.eggsa.org/library/main.php?g2_itemId=1278013 ) says she was born JOPLIN, not Bowker-Joplin. I have also found Mitford's brother Ernest Bowker Joplin's marriage certificate ( https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-23580-67151-80?cc=1468076 ), and he signed it as E B Joplin. So, I do NOT think it was a hyphenated name, but still haven't found a Bowker connection, unless they were neighbours or something? rgds Paul -- Paul Tanner-Tremaine Hampshire, England email : eighteentwenty@btinternet.com website : www.1820Settlers.com -------------------------------------------- On Wed, 4/3/15, rodg via <south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com> wrote: Subject: [ZA-EC] Bowker-Joplin or Bowker Joplin?
