Hi According to 'Aided immigration from Britain to South Africa 1857 - 1867' by Esme Bull, Albert Fowler and Martha (both 18 years) came out to South Africa on board the 'Shah Jehan' in 1859. With them was Mary Fowler, single. They were going to relatives in Port Elizabeth. I would like to find out: What relationship to Albert was Mary Who were the relatives they were going to There were three 1820 Settler Fowlers - Thomas, Thomas & William, all in different parties. Perhaps one of them is a relation! Maybe someone has access to the 1851 census for England and could do a look-up for me many thanks Jenn Graham & Jennifer Lloyd [Genealogical & Historical Research] Tel: +0027 (0)21 7974875 Mobile: 0824037343 email: lacey@yebo.co.za www.southafricanfamily.com I'm not stuck, I'm Ancestrally challenged

Hi David Thank you so much!! It must be the first one as on Albert's DN it states that he was born in Witney. And his age seems to fit. Do you have any further details for this family? So, Mary must have been his sister. Many thanks for your help Cheers Jenn Graham & Jennifer Lloyd [Genealogical & Historical Research] Tel: +0027 (0)21 7974875 Mobile: 0824037343 email: lacey@yebo.co.za www.southafricanfamily.com I'm not stuck, I'm Ancestrally challenged ----- Original Message ----- From: <djthorn@bigpond.net.au> To: "'Graham and Jennifer Lloyd'" <lacey@yebo.co.za>; <south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 13, 2015 2:07 AM Subject: RE: [ZA-EC] FOWLER > Hi Jenn, > > I have looked at the UK 1851 census and there are 2 possible for Albert > Fowler > > 1 shows an Albert born in Hanley, Oxfordshire and living in the parish > of Witney. > The people at the residence were:- William (Father) age 38 > Hannah (Mother) age 41 > Robert 16 > Emma 14 > Mary 13 > Albert 10 > Hannah 1 > 2 shows an Albert born in Chelsea, Middlesex parish of Chelsea > The people at the address were:- Lucy (mother) age 49 > James 18 > Jane 17 > Sarah 15 > Richard 13 > Mary A 12 > Albert 10 > Elizabeth 6 > > I can look for more details if you would like > Regards > David Thorn- Nelson Bay Australia > > >
HI Jenn, According to the UK BMD register Albert was born in the district of Witney, Oxfordshire during the period July/Sept 1840. The reference is Volume 16 Page 121. The image of the 1851 Census shows the address as 162 and what looks like "New Mills or New Hills " and Alberts father, William, is shown as what looks like "Fuller in Factory". There were others in that street with the same occupation. I do not have any other information about Albert as I have not looked him up before but I would be happy to look for more information about the family if you need further help. I am a full member of ancestry.com at present though I might reduce my membership when next it becomes due. I seem to have gone about as far as I can with my own research. Kind regards David -----Original Message-----
