This message was posted by Lew Skannen on the SA Genealogy Facebook page: I just want to give a quick update on the problems experienced the past 5 days over at GenDatabase. As many already know, on Sunday we have become the target of a group of people who attacked our server in an attempt to copy / steal all our free public information. This attack caused our server to fail numerous times during Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and we were forced to move all free public information to a paid member section. This have stopped the attacks on the server and gave us some time to repair all our damaged databases, which failed as a result of the attack. We have started this morning to re-open certain public searches again, but unfortunately, due to the attacks we are experiencing, we cannot make available ALL the information we did before as yet. We are still busy looking at some security measures we can implement. We will open more public searches during the course of the day and monitor the server. I apologize for the inconvenience caused, but we are trying our best to restore everything to where it was before. -----Original Message----- From: Marielle Ford [mailto:marielle@intekom.co.za] Sent: 23 September 2015 09:46 AM To: 'Annatjie Erasmus'; south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ZA-EC] Gendata One of my main reasons for not putting my data on pay sites or even free ones. Dit is jammerte dat GGSA nie dit gegryp en dan kan al ons betaalde lede ons eie webwerwe ondersteun. Eintlik moet almal wat n bydrae gelewer het, aandeel houers geword het. Duur speletjie deesdae.
