Hello Malcolm As you live in Cape Town, if you haven't done so already, I suggest you visit the Cape Archives, which is still at the old Roeland Street Prison, I think. You can check on line for references and arrange to view the documents and get copies. Death Notices are very useful as they should name surviving spouses and pre-deceased spouses. Usually the place of marriage is named, sometimes even the date. Wills name spouses too. Estate files, most of which include death notices, often offer much more information about the deceased person's family.
