    3. Civil registration is only from 1895 in the Cape Province. But the name sounds very Catholic and a lettr to the Archivist at the Archdiocese at Cape Town should reveal something. One of mine in a now defunct parish was there giving date of birth and baptism and parents' names and sponsors.
