    3. Hi All My great grandfather was one of a great many HEIMANN cousins to emigrate to South Africa. He did so in 1860 and whilst his birth name was Jacob he was known as Julius. Confusingly there were two more contemporaneous Julius Heimann living in SA! My Jewish family came from LUEGDE near Hameln of Pied Piper fame. On my Great Grandmother's side of the family there was a Sarah Catharina SMIT b. 1858 Caernarvon/Victoria West who married her brother. Earlier in my family's history my Gt Grandmother's Grandmother, Fanny Nussbaum had left an unsuccessful marriage in Nieder Auler, HESSEN to join relations going to SA - probably in the mid 1830's. It is said that the success of the MOSENTHAL brothers in building up a trading empire in SA encouraged other Germans to emigrate there.
