Hi Elaine Have you tried the familysearch.org website? There are entries for Sarah Ann Field born 1869 married to James Sinclair and for baptism of Ellen Edith Field daughter of Edward Charles and Annie Field. He was married to Annie (?) and four of their six children Alice Elizabeth, Edward Charles, John William and Harriet Laura were baptised in King Williamstown. I have found no baptism for Sarah Ann who was born in about 1869. In 1881 the family was living in Cape Town and Edward Charles snr was a constable. He died on 4 May 1881 and was buried at St George's on 6 May 1881. Cannot find information on how he came to be in South Africa - did he join the military here or elsewhere? Where was he from? I am trying to find out Annie's maiden name and where she was from. She remarried in 1883. Her death was on 15 July 1915 but, this is unconfirmed. It is possible that she died in Natal as this is where Sarah Ann was married. We have estate files for most of the family members. Hi Patty, are you sure he was born in 1810 in Norfolk? I checked www.findmypast.co.uk births and baptisms for James Frost b. 1810 Norfolk, and nothing came up, even when I gave a leeway of 5 years either side. Happy to try a different search approach if you wish? There are two James Frost entries for Norfolk in the 1841 census that give birth year as 1811 (but not where birth was. When did he arrive in SA? In some instances there is 1866, 1872 and 1901. On looking back on info on James Frost I see there is a posting on rootsweb by Becky Horne in 2005 (I know that's a long time ago) stating that he died in 1866. Is there any proof of this date. I'm trying to figure out if he is the one that married Anne Maria Latouche Lenaghan. If he died in 1866, then he can't be because she married a James Frost in 1876. Thank you Patty
I am afraid there are no original copies of the Grahamstown Journal at the British Library from 1857-1862 inclusive. The first file for 1863 has been uploaded at http://www.eggsa.org/newspapers/index.php/grahamstown-journal/1169-grahamstown-journal-1863-1-january-to-march Sue

Clive Jones has resumed his transcriptions of BMDs from the Cape Times and these are now on eggsa. So far he has completed January - August 1881, but these will now be added to regularly, so keep an eye on the Recently Updated box on the Newspapers section of the website. http://www.eggsa.org/newspapers/index.php/cape-times Sue

Civil registration is only from 1895 in the Cape Province. But the name sounds very Catholic and a lettr to the Archivist at the Archdiocese at Cape Town should reveal something. One of mine in a now defunct parish was there giving date of birth and baptism and parents' names and sponsors. Hi Nora I have William Collins SMITH as being born 10 Jan 1810 in Seaton, Northamptonshire, UK, son of Eli SMITH (I do not have a mother's name) . William Collins SMITH married Joyce FIELDING on 13 Nov 1837 in Adelphi Chapel, St Martins in the Field, Trafalgar Square London so it is unlikely that he was of 1820 stock. -----Original Message----- From: Nora McLean [mailto:notesfornora@telus.net] Sent: 06 February 2015 04:39 PM To: 'Nolene Lossau'; south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [ZA-EC] Graham and Smith at Port Alfred (Nora McLean) Nolene, thank you for this information.
