Good afternoon all, I would appreciate assistance with family members that I have not been able to find through my own research. Most of the research was done through" Family Search" which has provided me with an enormous amount of information, however, there are some files that I could not access. If anyone can guide me to the source I would be most grateful. Johannes Matthys DE BEER *21/02/1829 + ? x Gesina Johanna Prinsloo * ? x ? + ? Hi Mike, I think this Charles, b 1865 in Fort Beaufort, was the son of Richard b 1839 and Mary Ann // b 1849 m 2.5.1865 Winterberg.Richard was 7th child of Richard b 1799 East Garston Berkshire, 1820 Settler in Pigot's party who married Charlotte // b c.1803 married in Grahamstown 26 Nov 1823. I was also trying to sort them all out a couple of weeks ago, and am waiting on a few confirmers before publishing to the web. John who married Susanna Straford was son of Aaron, brother to the Pigot party Bouchers. -- Paul Tanner-Tremaine Hampshire, England email : eighteentwenty@btinternet.com website : www.1820Settlers.com On Tuesday, 7 July 2015, 12:53, Mike Wright via <south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com> wrote: Hi All I am working on the BOUCHER family(ies) at the moment and have a question based on the following birth certificate for Maclear (1895): Entry #87 Father: Charles BOUCHER, English, 30, born Ft. I am trying to trace my uncle ( Jack Geddes), aunt ( Dorothy Geddes) and cousin(Penelope Geddes), who lived in the Cape. My uncle and aunt lived in East London, after my uncle retired from managing Department store ( Stuttefords), before 1970 . Prior to that they had lived in Cape Town, amongst other places. I believe my cousin may still be living in or near Durban. I would appreciate any information as to their whereabouts. With thanks, and kind regards, Michael Yeend -- Message protected by MailGuard: e-mail anti-virus, anti-spam and content filtering.http://www.mailguard.com.au/mg

Dear Simone, I couldn’t find anything related to your Herbert Tidby Williamson on Ancestry, under Prisoners of War, but when searching for more information to guide the search, I found the following in Wikipedia: Second World War[edit] The 3rd Hussars was brigaded with the 4th Hussars in the 1st Armoured Brigade in 1939. After the fall of France, the 3rd Hussars was shipped to North Africa and assigned to the 7th Armoured Brigade. The regiment served in the North African Campaign. In 1941, B Squadron was sent to Singapore as reinforcements, but with the fall of Singapore, it was diverted to Java where, after a brief fight, it was ordered to surrender and the men spent the rest of the war as Prisoners of War.[ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_The_King's_Own_Hussars#Second_World_War It seems to fit your story. Do you know whether he survived the POW camps? Hope this helps a bit. Margaret Farrell

Hi Simone, There is not much WWII on Ancestry. A few entries on findmypast. Not your man. He did, apparently, arrive at Southampton on the 29th Sept, 1939 on the Windsor Castle. Gave his UK destination as "J.Tidby, Tunbridge Wells". I leave Scotland's people to you, as it's a "pay-as-you-go" site. Not too expensive if you are looking for only one person who then emigrated. Don't forget he quite probably added "Tidby" after baptism.
