    3. Hi Karen, Why not try Henry April at the archives. They will, for a small fee, send you copies. His e-mail is Hendrik.April@westerncape.gov.za Include all the details in your e-mail and specify what documents you require, they will send you a quote, once paid they will copy the documents and send them to you. It does take a while, about four to six weeks. I think your involvement was possibly to do with the Brown family who were married into the Clark family. I have been involved in researching our family history for a number of years and recently came upon a document that opened up an area that had been very murky and I was able to move forward. My ggrandmother on my mother’s side was Beatrice Elizabeth Clark (1891 – 1955) and she married Charles Chowles (1887 – 1918) in Mafeking in 1910. (Charles was one of the Mafeking Cadets under Col. Baden-Powell during the siege of Mafeking during the Boer War and I believe she was a child also in Mafeking during the siege) Beatrice’s father was James Ferguson Brown Clark (1857 – 1931) who married Francina Berendina Bothma (1873 – 1947) in 1890. His father was Charles Clark (1822 – 1931)who was married to Isabella Brown (1831 – 1906). His father was Charles Clark (1783 – 1847) who was married to Sarah, and came to SA with their three children with the 1820 settlers. 3. Hi Hazel On www.ancestry.co.uk there's a Sophie born 1837, in Cornwall, on the 1841 UK Census. Her parents were Joseph and Mary plus lots of siblings aged from 4yrs to 20 yrs. Happy to do look ups for you - if you don't have a subscription. Alexandra Coak -----Original Message----- From: south-africa-eastern-cape-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:south-africa-eastern-cape-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Hazel Dakers via Sent: 24 August 2015 09:58 To: SOUTH-AFRICA-EASTERN-CAPE@rootsweb.com Subject: [ZA-EC] Goodman family I am looking for the Goodman family who were certainly in the E. Cape at one time. I know only of siblings William Erastus Goodman (1842-1917) and his sister Sophia Ann Goodman (1837-97). Sophia's marriage record indicates she came from Cornwall. William had at least two children - Mabel who died young and Vivian Erastus. I believe he was also married three times - Johanna Elizabeth Green, Maria Barbara van Amstel de Wet and Ethel J.M. Lowe. Sophia was married to Raphael Daniel Norden with whom she had 11 children. I am particularly keen to identify the Goodman parents and further siblings. I know from MD Nash that a Henry and Elizabeth Goodman were in Osler's Party and that Osler came from Falmouth (Cornwall). Nash also states "No mention has been found in colonial records of the presence of ..Henry Goodman at the Cape, and ..may have been replaced at the last minute without the change being reflected in the sailing list". I do have a few NAAIRS references which I hope to follow up if I do another SA trip in March 2016. 3. I know that this inquiry relates primarily to the Gauteng region, but I am posting it here in case it "rings a bell" with somebody. I have been approached by my neighbor, Wallie Conradie for help. According to a birth certificate Wallie's father was born on 29 March 1914 at 33 C Hancock Street, Hospital Hill, Johannesburg. His name is listed as Walter Bowden BLAKE on the birth certificate. His parents were Walter BLAKE, a professional actor of European race born in England and Maude Hannah MARSHALL also of European descent born in England. He was subsequently adopted by Pieter Willem CONRADIE and Anna Susanna CONRADIE on 29 March 1914 and named Walter CONRADIE. Can anybody cast some light on this request? Regards, Dan Daniel
