My ggrandmother on my mother’s side was Beatrice Elizabeth Clark (1891 – 1955) and she married Charles Chowles (1887 – 1918) in Mafeking in 1910. (Charles was one of the Mafeking Cadets under Col. Baden-Powell during the siege of Mafeking during the Boer War and I believe she was a child also in Mafeking during the siege) Beatrice’s father was James Ferguson Brown Clark (1857 – 1931) who married Francina Berendina Bothma (1873 – 1947) in 1890. His father was Charles Clark (1822 – 1931)who was married to Isabella Brown (1831 – 1906). His father was Charles Clark (1783 – 1847) who was married to Sarah, and came to SA with their three children with the 1820 settlers. I would be most grateful if you could shed some light on any of the people listed above, if you have any. I would also sincerely appreciate if you could put me in touch with anyone who could help me with my search. I know that this inquiry relates primarily to the Gauteng region, but I am posting it here in case it "rings a bell" with somebody. I have been approached by my neighbor, Wallie Conradie for help. According to a birth certificate Wallie's father was born on 29 March 1914 at 33 C Hancock Street, Hospital Hill, Johannesburg. His name is listed as Walter Bowden BLAKE on the birth certificate. His parents were Walter BLAKE, a professional actor of European race born in England and Maude Hannah MARSHALL also of European descent born in England.
