Hi Elaine, I hope that this is still your current e-mail address. My name is Sidney Miller, and I am a Conservation Architect that was requested to document the 'cottage turned dwelling' on Haverklip before its imminent demolition to make way to another Coal project in the area. (What a slaughter of the Mpumalanga heritage in general!). From Isabel Knox of Delmas Coal, I learned that the occupants were possibly associated with the surname Browne, (as well as Botha?), because of interested parties that visited the site and cemetery some time in the near past. I then searched on the web and came across your correspondence with south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com>. As it is so much better to add personality to a condemned building, I humbly request that if you so feel inclined that you supply us with what you know about Haverklip, its owners and the people that lived there. Concerning the dwelling of which I attach a photograph I built up 'an architectural impression of the builder'. It is as follows:- A bachelor of breeding but limited personal resources, of British (Scottish?) decent. This person was living alone for possibly a decade or two without apparent 'farming related structures on the premises' that would have given him a 'legitimate' farmer's profile. He then marrying and enlarged the building to suit marital life. He then soon passed away. No plumbing or electricity services in the dwelling shows inhabitants of rugged character. Kind Regards Sidney Miller Cel, 082 939 6536

To all the genies out there, May this be a great day of reflection on what the true meaning of Christmas is to each of us, of what with grace we have been able to achieve on our endless research, and look forward to what may yet to come in our quest for the truth, light and knowledge of our past. I thank you one and all, genies and list owners, Becky, Delia and Conrod for your great lists and tolerance of latitude from which so many wild ideas have become a reality of once lost and now found rellies! Thank you to all the posters for your great work . it is soooo much appreciated! Merry Christmas Best wishes Paxie Mrs PAE Kelsey 23 Defiant Avenue, Airfield, Benoni, 1501 Tel: 011 849 9962 Cell: 082 956 3354

Lovely, thank you. Happy Christmas, Rob -----Original Message----- From: south-africa-eastern-cape-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:south-africa-eastern-cape-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of joy Sent: 24 December 2012 09:17 PM To: south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com Subject: [ZA-EC] Holiday fun . . .LONG! It will be Christmas day in just under 3 hours for me, and no-one has posted this yet this year - so here goes ! Happy Christmas Joy Genealogist's Christmas Eve 'Twas the night before Christmas When all through the house Not a creature was stirring, Not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote; Sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and such Were proof that my work had become too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop >From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been busy with grandparents' wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills, While others bought gifts to bring Christmas cheers, I'd spent time researching those birth dates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and yanked up the sash. When what with my wondering eyes should appear, But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the house top the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys and 'ole Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa--KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good 'ole Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy: When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you," Santa grinned, As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amusement--the cover it read Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead. "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug." He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folk who can't find a thing." "Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family history is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!" --Author Unknown ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SOUTH-AFRICA-EASTERN-CAPE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Goodnight!" --Author Unknown

Merry Christmas all! Does SKS have any information on the RINTOUL emigrants to South Africa, likely some time in the 1800's ? I have Ettie Margaret Wright Nee RINTOUL (d. 1893 Port Elizabeth) but can not find anything about her. I do not know if she was born in Scotland or SOuth Africa, but I have found that RINTOUL is a Scottish surname. I have picked up a few Rintoul / Rentoul records here and there but nothing to link to Ettie Margret Rintoul. As an aside, I have also found her name written as Hettie, and Margaret Ettie. Sincerely Malcolm
Best wishes also to you dear Becky and thanks again for all your much appreciated hard work. We all value all the hard work so many of our listers do to help us all. A big thank you to them as well and all the best for the festive season Sybil On Mon, Dec 24, 2012 at 10:01 AM, Becky horne <beckyjh@telkomsa.net> wrote: > Dearest East Cape subscribers > > You are all a special band of folk that have injected so much caring into > this List. > Thank you for all the thoughtful things that you have given with so much > enthusiasm. > > Wishing you all a Merry Christmas. > Be blessed always. > > Festive greetings > Becky > > > > > __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus > signature > database 7830 (20121223) __________ > > The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. > > http://www.eset.com > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > SOUTH-AFRICA-EASTERN-CAPE-request@rootsweb.com with the word > 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
