    3. Hi Marius & Fay I see in one of Valerie's early Rootsweb messages that she mentions that the CD would be produced by Sono Press. Maybe it would be worth contacting them to see if they hold any copies or can produce from their archives. You should be able to google for contact details. Good luck. 3. Hi Elaine What a lot of footwork you have done. Thank you! Lead 1 : http://iagenweb.org/boards/floyd/obituaries/index.cgi?read=278200 For now I am mainly concentrating on the STEWARTs of Albany, Cape Colony. Lead 2 : http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SOUTH-AFRICA/2005-04/111314869 1 This is a great lead. I forgot to mention that I have been corresponding with Desiree Braithwaite. Originally she planted the seed that there might be a connection between the STEWARTs, i.e. that Margaret Minnie STEWART might have been the sister-in-law of James HILL. This is what I am trying to establish. I cannot find a marriage union between James HILL and a STEWART. If I can find the father of Margaret, preferably a DN, I might have more luck. For now, I am still working with the unknown. Lead 3 : http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SOUTH-AFRICA-IMMIGRANTS-BRITIS H/2004-01/1074723231 A family legend passed down always leads to confusion. A JOST marrying a JOST is of course possible. Cousins did it all the time back then when there was not enough women / men to go around. Lead 4 : http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SOUTH-AFRICA-IMMIGRANTS-BRITIS H/2004-01/1074704251 See why this line of research is so confusing. The name changes just adds to the frustration - Jacobus George JOST instead of Jacob JOST. Lead 5: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SOUTH-AFRICA-IMMIGRANTS-BRITIS H/2004-01/1074531626 This is dealing mainly with descendants in the timeline that I am not looking into at this time. Piet RETIEF owned the farm "Cariega or Kariega" and after RETIEF became insolvent, the whole farm was subdivided into allotments for the British Settlers. Lead 7: http://pollisplace.com/history/jost.htm Leads mainly centered around Canada. 3. I've been having great fun checking whether I have people in my file and then being able to add these valuable bits. One in particular I was delighted to find that for Judith Willem, Johannes FERREIRA, born VAN AARDT (yes, those names are correct!!!). I was able to forward the document to Pieter van Aardt who so kindly provided me with his research file (bless his cotton socks). It's so rewarding being able to offer a small piece of information to him which might add to his file! We still have a puzzle to solve. Her Death Certificate was signed by her brother, W.A. van AARDT. The form provides the information that she was the mother of three children (we have none listed). The task now is to find out the forenames of her husband who at the moment is PN FERREIRA and the names of her children. As her brother signed the Death Certificate I can only assume that he was already deceased at the time of her death. Who were her children? What happened to them. Did her brother take them in. One question answered and a whole 'flock' more to try to unravel.....it's such fun!! Once again Ellen, 'I kiss your feet' as my mother would say! Best wishes, Tombi Peck ----- Original Message ----- From: "Malcolm Stevens" <malcolm.stevens@upcmail.nl> To: <south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 02, 2013 9:30 AM Subject: [ZA-EC] Index to 1912 Uitenhage Death Certificates - REPOST sortedby surname > Dear all, > > This is a repost of Ellen Stanton's transcription with entries sorted by > surname. 3. Dear EC subscribers Happy New Year to all of you. May this be the year that we all obtain substantial leads to fill up the Family Tree. I gave this frustrating hobby a bit of a break in the hope to gather my thoughts and take a fresh approach to my tree. I am going to take you way back to a posting of mine in 2007 in the hope of finding more leads. Paxie believes that there is a link to the STEWART family but I still can't see it. Having long chats with Carol Beneke I'm still not closer - maybe there is a connection but I still remain unconvinced. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SOUTH-AFRICA-EASTERN-CAPE/2007 -09/1189333650 Jacob JOST married Margaret STUART in Salem, Albany, 30 Sep 1861. Jacob was listed as a labourer [employed by James HILL on the farm, "Grapevale", Kariega]. One of the witnesses to this above marriage was Allan STEWART. Maybe he was he Margaret's brother - I'm not sure. Allan was also a labourer and he married Mary EARLS in 1860. They had 7 children - 6 boys and 1 girl. The second son, John Allan, died at the age of 6 yrs and 9 mths and is buried in the Old Grahamstown cemetery. The remaining children were: Alexander Donald Patrick Earle Catherine Jane John Allan [presumably named after his deceased brother] Stephen Charles I just have to find a connection and then I am sure I will be able to match the dots but I need your help. Any bells ringing yet?
