    3. Hi Malcolm - in haste - will respond properly later - I have done Engcobo and St Marks from 1895 to 1910, posted on RSA Transkei-EC, check the archives, I can repost on EC site if desired. -----Original Message----- From: south-africa-eastern-cape-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:south-africa-eastern-cape-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Malcolm Stevens Sent: 06 January 2013 09:06 To: south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ZA-EC] Advice please Hi Mary That is wonderful to hear! Please do not give in and go away - the list and genealogy in general needs more people like you to help transcribe such useful information. I don't think there is any coordination happening, although Ellen and I are trying not not duplicate each other's work. For large sets of records which take days to transcribe I have started letting Ellen know but for the shorter lists both Ellen and I tend to publish pretty soon after transcribing. Funnily enough, I downloaded a number of years of Transkei images ready for transcribing so perhaps this is a good example of where we should coordinate a little better? I for one am busy with KWT 1897, St Marks and Ngcobo (Engcobo) 1895 to around 1900. 1. [ZA-EC] Advice please
    2. Harper
    3. Hello all, Please, I need guidance from those on the EC list who have been transcribing certificates from SA CP Civil Deaths on FamilySearch. While I've been trawling through to find my own family members, I have been attempting to transcribe the deaths in the old Transkei. I have now done 1895 to 1910, with a couple of towns still to do catch-up on, which I now realise were originally part of that territory. As I have seen some 1911 transcriptions for Transkei towns on the EC list, I am wondering where to go next. I would like to continue doing this, but it would be pointless if the experienced transcribers already have Transkei towns in the pipeline, and I certainly don't want to tread on any toes. I am happy to be told where to start next - or to give up and go away? Best wishes to everyone out there for 2013, Mary

    3. Hi Listers I have a brick wall which I've been struggling with for many years now. My great, great grandmother is EMILY CHRISTINA SCHULTZ (Perhaps Emmelina) who we believe was born on 2 Apr 1865 in Queenstown. She married Karl August Wilhelm Schultz in Queenstown, probably shortly before 1891 and had a number of children that we know of. Various documents indicate her maiden name was Schultz. She died on Aug 8 1953 in Pretoria and is (supposedly) buried in the Rebecca Street cemetery in Pretoria. I have not managed to confirm her birth details - nor do I know who her parents were. Could I ask SKS to check their baptism / marriage lists to see if they could find any sliver of info which could help me break my wall down. I was thinking that one of three things could be of value: 1. If we can find her marriage entry we can confirm her maiden name and perhaps some other details, such as her name! 2. If we can find her baptism entry then of course we've hit gold 3. If we can find any of her children's baptism entries we could confirm her name and maiden name If anyone can help with a lookup then I'd be really grateful. Children: - Agnes Monroe b Dec 26 1891 d Oct 5 1967 - Carl William Frederick b Nov 11 1894 (St Marks) d Jun 5 1954 - William Edward b ~1896 - Victor Ernest b Sep 14 1899 Ngcobo d Nov 28 1958 - Rachael b ~1903 - Ilva May b ~1905 - May b ~1910 - Maybel b ~1914 - Martha b ~1916 - Ray b ~1918 - Eric - Ernest b ~1920 - Daisy b ~1924 It seems some of the children were born in the Transkei area (St Marks and Ngcobo) Regards Malcolm

    3. No, no sources. There is a note that after the children finished their education they left. I presume left the farm. This is the c generation. The A generation is George Gravett *1823 Littlehampton, England , married Hannah Waters * 1841. They had 13 children, b8 being a Dorenda Gravett who married a John Waters. Hannah Derenda (Renda) is b3. I think most of VdK's earlier recordings are taken from graveyards in the general Southwell area. 3. Hello Marcella My great grandfather also fought in the Boer war for an English regiment. I went to the British National Archives in Kew where I was able to (quite easily) get access to his army records and make copies thereof. There may be, and likely are, services offered for lookups at a fee but I personally don't have experience with or knowledge of these. All the best Malcolm On 2013/01/04 05:53 PM, Marcella Shames wrote: > Hi Listers > Any suggestions on how I research the following soldier is much appreciated.
