    1. [ZA-EC] Family Search.org - Civil Deaths - Year Unknown
    2. Rose Kelland
    3. On www.familysearch.org under Civil Deaths (not yet indexed), at the bottom of the list of years 1850 through to 1954, the last item is "Year Unknown". This opens up to some of the EAstern Cape areas, one of which is King Williams Town. Curious I wanted to know why it was "Year Unknown", only to find the year was known - 1943!! And there is no King Williamstown listed in the 1943 section! As an idea I copied down some of the 621 names and dates to give you an idea of the range; maybe they're yours! Image No; First Name; Surname; Age; Notes (mine); DOD 57; Maria Henriette Christine; Linnow; 79; born Weyer; 1 Feb 1943 58; William Johannes; de Lange; 60; 31 Jan 1943 59; John; Russel; 64; 1 Feb 1943 150; Martha Sarah; Kanes; 75; 13 mar 1943 152; Jane Frances; Erskine; 47; 27 Mar 1943 160; John Thomson; Fairbairn; 62; 4 apr 1943 210; Norman; Butcher; 46; 17May 1943 252; Anna Maria Susanna Johanna; Naude; 75; born Hattingh; 21 may 1943 254; Charles Martin; Marullier; 80; 25 May 1943 256; Lorenzo William; Hall; 54; 1 June 1943 257; Alice Claudia; Sansom; 69; born Brown; 6 Jun 1943 369; Ernest Lionel; Vice; 59; 25 Jul 1943 400; Bertha; Kockjen; born Koch; 10 Aug 1943 402; Catherina Elisabeth; Eberhardt; 67; born Rabe; 9 Aug 1943 550; Nathaniel Christian Wilhelm; Volker; 67; 15 Nov 1943 600; Hans; Meyers; 73; 3 Dec 1943 601; Pavada' Ramoo; 72; 4 Dec 1943 All 1943! 1. [ZA-EC] Union Castle Mail ship movements
    2. Thank you Tombi. I too had found the departure record. Our family history has it that David Reed met Leonora Milsom Smith/ Thompson in Cape Town and persuaded her to travel to Beira or Lourenco Marques where he fetched her to live in what is now Kwe Kwe in the then Southern Rhodesia. While on the subject. L.M. Smith said that she married a Mr Thompson in England on 26 May 1896 but I have not been able to find any record of this marriage. I think that it might have been a "shotgun marriage" in a registry office or something like that. Thanks for your very prompt reply David

    1. [ZA-EC] Arrival of Union Castle liners at Cape Town.
    2. Hi Listers, Is there any way I can find out when Union Castle liners arrive and leave Cape Town and are passenger list available? I am interested in the arrival of my grandmother who travelled as Mrs Thompson from Southampton on the "Tintagel Castle" which departed on 5 December 1896 She was booked through to Delagoa Bay and I would be interested to know if and when she might have left Cape Town on that part of her voyage. Also on David REED ( my grandfather) who travelled as Mr Reed on "Avondale Castle" which departed Southampton on 30 January 1897. Keep up the good work David in Nelson Bay, Australia

    3. Thanks very much for thinking of me, Rod. Much appreciated. Now I just have to work out where she fits in.....I don't think she's one of my HARTS, I think she's a Gardener HART but I have them all recorded as well.....in the early days I didn't realise there were two distinct HART families.....!
