Hi Robert Sadly there are hardly any burial records from the period before 1880 which is when Maitland Cemetery opened. The other large cemetery called Somerset Road close down officially in 1886. The new Somerset Road Cemetery closed about 40 years ago. There are numerous small church yard cemeteries in the surrounds of Cape Town where the Deeker baby child could have been buried but with the wind in Cape Town the lettering by now would have been long worn away. The only way to find out would be by consulting burial registers from churches and you would need to know which church the burial service was held in. You can read more about the old Somerset Road Cemetery here http://ancestry24.com/the-lost-inscriptions-of-somerset-road/ best wishes Heather Heather MacAlister Channel Manager E heather@ancestry24.co.za T +27 (021) 468 8957 F +27 (0)86 5810390 Join us on Facebook twitter.com/ancestry24 | Skype: ancestry24 7th Floor , 11 Adderley Street, Cape Town, 8000 | www.ancestry24.co.za -----Original Message----- From: south-africa-cape-town-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:south-africa-cape-town-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gary clough Sent: 18 May 2012 03:03 PM To: SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] Frances Susannah Deeker Greetings all listers, Recently a baptismal record was found for Frances Susannah Deeker, daughter of Robert Deeker, bapt 20 June 1842 at St George's, Cape Town. The family moved to Victoria, Aust in 1853 but Frances wasn't with them. Robert's death record notes her as predeceasing him, so it is appears quite probable that she died in South Africa before they emigrated. I would like to know if there is a death or burial record for her in South Africa - I would think it would be in Cape Town as Robert's wedding and all baptisms were in Cape Town to my knowledge. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
