Dear Heather and listers I am looking for some inspiration! I have a collection of photographs from 1924 to 1926 of a family living in Uitenhage that I would be pleased to share. My difficulty is that I do not have a family name, only a surname beginning with B! I do know they were sent by the mother of the family aged in her 30s called Rita B…..to a younger woman, Kathleen, whose home was in Stockport, Cheshire and who was born in Cape Town before coming to England in 1909 at the age of 3 so the family in Uitenhage may have migrated from Stockport for there to be affection between Rita and Kathleen. One picture mentions a cousin to three of the children so there were two linked families in Uitenhage. These are the family members, Rita B… Mother In her mid 30s Bunny Father Also in his mid 30s Buller Son (?) or possibly a nephew Late teens Leslie Son (?) or possibly a nephew Mid teens Dot Daughter and possible twin Aged 8 - 10 Pat Daughter and the 2nd possible twin Aged 8 - 10 Walter Son Aged about 5 Dorita Daughter Aged about 3 Guy Son (?) or possibly a nephew Aged about 18 months As the photographs were taken over two or three years the ages are approximate. One postcard showing panoramic views of “Uitenhage Cape Province” has the message “A general view of the town but I can scarcely point out where we live – The river winds all along the bottom of the hills in the background but one can scarcely see it in this.” This suggests their home was close to the Swartkops River. Any help would be much appreciated. Martin
Hi Martin Did a search on NAAIRS for Dorita and came up with TAYLOR, Dorita Catherina Johanna. Born BRITZ which would fit with your "B" surname.
