I've found another photograph taken during my father's Service. The photograph is not dated. I do not know if it was taken in Carolina before they went up North or in North Africa itself. My father was No. 1777787V. A Bombadier in the 1/16 Battery 1/6 Field Regiment, South African Army. Back Row left to right standing: Edgar Goldblum, Herbert Mills, Ken McIntyre, George Burridge, Ralph Dees, Jack Peyper, Les Richards 2nd Row seated. Lt. Hunt, Captain Carter, Lt. Lundberg, Captain Ryan, 2nd Lt. McDonald, Shorty Pinshaw and standing Hopkins Seated on the ground: Stucki, Diffenthal, Alec Griffiths (ex 5th Field 13 Battery). I presume the last comment in brackets refers to Alec Griffiths. If anyone would like a copy of the photograph please contact me off list. Best wishes, Tombi Peck
Tombi - or anyone who has the info...my grandfather, Jack Coetzee born in Goudini, joined the Transvaal Scottish. However, I have a scan of the page where he was being discharged in the USA? Did our South African troops travel via the US to come home to S.A.? Seems like a long way around since we were still in the Commonwealth at that time. Has anyone else come across this? thanks, Coral Anna > From: tombipeck@talktalk.net > To: south-africa-eastern-cape@rootsweb.com > Date: Mon, 9 Apr 2012 14:33:41 +0100 > CC: south-africa-cape-town@rootsweb.com; south-africa-immigrants-british@rootsweb.com > Subject: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] Photograph of 5th Field, 13 Battery. > > I've found another photograph taken during my father's Service. > > The photograph is not dated. > > I do not know if it was taken in Carolina before they went up North or in North Africa itself. > > My father was No. 1777787V.
