    3. An ancestor served as a private with the 2nd Batt., 11th (North Devonshire) Regiment of Foot, and according to his army attestation documents spent 3 years 9 months in "the Cape of Good Hope" (possibly also Natal). That period was sometime between 1861 and 1865; in 1865 the unit moved from South Africa to "China" (Hong Kong) before returning to South Africa in 1866. Are there any records telling how the Devonshire Regiment was deployed in South Africa in that period 1861 to 1865? thanks, Barry
