That period was sometime between 1861 and 1865; in 1865 the unit moved from South Africa to "China" (Hong Kong) before returning to South Africa in 1866. Are there any records telling how the Devonshire Regiment was deployed in South Africa in that period 1861 to 1865? thanks, Barry ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ----- No virus found in this message. 1. [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] John Grey Brown - Claremont
    2. Karen Kennedy (SunVac)
    3. Greetings from Harare!! Need some help with my family research................ John Grey Brown - a fruit farmer from Claremont married a Julia ?? (Apparently related to the famous/infamous John Brown servant and rumoured husband of Queen Victoria) Daughter: Margaret Agnes Brown b. 17/1/1866 in Claremont Married John Benjamin Moodie on 29/10/1885 in Newcastle Formed part of the Moodie Trek into Rhodesia and settled in Inyanga and named Claremont Estate. John Grey Brown (Margaret's father) soon after settled on York farm in Inyanga and named the town of Juliasdale after his wife (or mother?) What I am trying to establish is whether John Grey Brown and his wife Julia(?)had another daughter called Agnes Brown who married someone called Madden in SA? I think that they had two daughters Julia Gladys Madden (born in SA in about 1893) and Agnes Madden born on 22.9.1897 in Umtali, Rhodesia. Agnes Madden (nee Brown)then later married William Henry Auret and later still married Bob Hayes. Can anyone help me?? Thanks so much Karen Kennedy
