    3. Morning all Has anyone come across the surname of Cressey, Cressy, Creasey or any of it's variants ? I am trying to find a connection between my Cressy and Harold Cressy High School in Roeland street. Here is a bit of info on the Cressy's: In a CT street directory (1839?) is the first reference of William Cressey having a liquor store in Heerengracht Street. In 1844 requested that he be permitted to alter his liquor licence "for selling spirits at Three Cups, Rondebosch to the adjoining house". So we have "Driekoppen", the name of one of the UCT residences. He then reappears in Harrington Street, and subsequently moved his canteen to the corner of Bree and Waterkant Street (1850). His son, William James, whose children , died aged 32 on the 18th February 1875 at THE RED LION. By the way, that first James Cressey (1813) had a sister Elizabeth who married a Captain Sperrin. From the CT Library records, some years ago I randomly chose some street directories, and found William Cressey listed as follows: 1846 Dealer in Liquors - Harrington House Keisersgracht (Must have been on the corner Darling and Harrington Street) 1850 Dealer in Liquors - Harrington House Keisersgracht 1851 Dealer in Liquors - Bree Street 1851 Dealer in Liquors - Edinburgh Castle Inn, 47 Waterkant Street 1860 Dealer in Liquors - 3 Mechau Street (Red Lion Hotel) After his death on the 30th August 1874 (Public House Keeper) his wife carried on 1878 - Ann Cressey (widow) - Boston Hotel 3 Bree Street 1883/4 - Publican 5 Bree Street 1884 - Canteen Keeper 3 Bree Street (Boston Hotel) 1887 - 32 Wale Street (Grosvenor Hotel) 1891 - Clyde Hotel 5 Dorp Street William's widow apparently carried on until her death on 15th Febr 1893 at 32 Wale Street. She was 80 years old. Williams nephew was Michael Mann who was also a publican and was the chap found drunk in the streets of Cape Town - if any one is related to these people or who can put some flesh on bones - would love to hear from you - thanks Heather Descendants of Richard Cressey Generation No. 1 1.
