I am looking for information on George Paton and his family. George was a Lieutenant in the Cape Mounted Rifles and married Magdalene Johanna Cornelia Prys, probably prior to 1820. They had 5 children all born in Cape Town; Alexander Prys, (B. Sept 8, 1820); Martha Elizabeth, (B. Oct 20, 1823, D. at Sea Point S.A. Jan 31, 1828); Dorothea, (B. Apr. 27, 1825); George Ponty, (B. Oct 24 1826, D. Feb 15, 1827 at 16 Strand St.) James, (B. Sept. 3 1828) Magdalene died Oct 27, 1828 in Cape Town and George moved back to Scotland. I am going to be in Cape Town at the end of October and would like to verify the above and obtain further information if possible. How would I go about checking the marriage, births and deaths - through civil registration or parish records? Are any of the early records indexed and/or transcribed?
