Hi Rob, I checked the Hart's in my book on 1820 Settlers, and although there is no Stephen in the list, I am copying you the information, as you said you were interested in hunting all the Hart's down. (Not sure if "hunting" would be appropriate for human Harts???)!! Anyway: 1) Hart, William, 54. Lt-Col. 13th Dragoon Guards. w. Jane, c. Elizabeth 19, Henry 10, Samuel 8. (then there's the name William w/ no age next to it). Party: Bailie's. Ship: Chapman. 2) Info on Bailie's Party - "A party of 256 from London led By Lieut. John Bailie, R.N. sailed in "Chapman". Their location was between Wellington and Palmiet Rivers and their centre was named Cuylerville after Colonel Jacob Cuyler, 59th Reg. Divisions of the party were directed by Lt. Bailie, Thomas Adams, George Anderson, William Harrison, and Thomas Wakeford." 3) "Hart, Robert 1777-1867 Born at Strathavon, Lanark, he joined the Argyll and Sutherland Regiment in 1794. In 1795 he took part in the Battle of Muizenberg and served in India in 1803. He returned to England in 1804 and was married to Hannah Tamplin of Guernsey. Sgt.-Maj @ Shorncliffe in 1806, he was at the Cape as Ensign, Cape Regiment in 1807, later becoming Adjutant. He served in the Zuurveld Campaign in 1811. He grew vegetables on land which he held at Grahamstown in 1815 and succeeded Dr. Joseph Mackrill as Superintendent of Somerset Farm. In 1825 he was Acting Magistrate at Somerset. At his death he left (pound sterling) 1300 toward the foundation of a Church at Somerset." Hope some of this is helpful or opens some doors for you. I also have quite a few Death Notices of Harts that are not related to my family. I am actually on a Quest to gather all the Death Notices of Hart's to try and once and for all get all the Hart's. If there is anybody out there interested in getting this Hart story sorted out I would like to hear from you please. I have a bit of information on the Robert Hart from Glen Avon Somerset East as well as quite a few death Notices as well.
