1 January 1820 A detachment of the Royal African Corps was at Kaffir Drift Post. 13 January 1820 The Governor, Lord Charles SOMERSET, went on leave, and General Sir Rufane DONKIN, 44th Regiment, became Acting Governor. 29 January 1820 King George the third died.
