Let me just put a little "aside" in here - that "story" about the Duke of Bedford is quite probable, as his daughter attended Springfield Convent in Wynberg. So, I am sure her parents would have had domicile in SA too. If they grew oranges - that could be the northern cape area? Anyway, just thought I'd throw that in for you! Coral Anna Mt. I certainly do have a problem especially as I have no living South African relatives that I know of to ask. My mother would not talk about her family and I never thought to ask my Grandparents when they were alive. My grandfather did tell my sister he had brothers and there was some mention that they grew oranges! I understand the property was 'next door' to land owned by the Duke of Bedford. I do have my grandmother's identity card number so I don't know if that will be of any help to track her. I think my next step will be to write to South Africa House in London as that is where my grandmother's passport was renewed. I have also subscribed to the www.familytree.co.za and hope I might find some clues there. Hello Coral If the Duke of Bedford grew oranges and they children went to Springfield it sounds like the children were boarders ? Oranges are grown mainly in the Citrusdal and Clanwilliam regions but of course their would be other farms elsewhere. I have a house in Clanwilliam so I know just how big the citrus groves up that part of the world are. The again if they grew up in Claremont - Springfield was just a gallop down the road on Horse and Cart. Checking voters rolls and municipal directories would also be a good start. Any idea what the Duke of Bedford's "real name" was ? kind regards Heather Visit South Africa's premier Genealogy + Family History Web sites : www.familytree.co.za <http://www.familytree.co.za> + www.ancestry.mweb.co.za <http://www.ancestry.mweb.co.za> -----Original Message----- From: Foster, Coral A.
