Hello Pat You are quite correct is is named after the Rhenish Mission Station Originally Rhenish mission station, Amandelboom, founded in 1845 on the banks of the Sak River to house wanderers trekking from spring to spring in search of grazing wst of the Karee Mountains, the town was renamed in 1919 after a former British Cape Colonial Secretary, Colonel Hampden Willis. An important road junction linking most Hantam towns, Williston lies in sheep-farming country bound by the Slangberg (Snake Mountain) Range in the south and a series of pans in the north. I found reference to the street onthe web site http://www.apartmentscapetown.co.za/ Probably one of those obscure roads that never appear on any maps We are now all bothered as to where it REALLY is ? kind regards Heather Heather MacAlister Website Manager for: www.familytree.co.za www.ancestry.mweb.co.za 46 Hof Street Gardens 8001 Cape Town Tel: 021-481 8316 Fax: 021- 481 8333 ________________________________ From: patfryk [mailto:patfryk@clear.net.nz] Sent: Thu 05/07/21 19:18 To: SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [South-Africa-Cape-Town] Buitenkant, Loop street etc. Rudolph Botha answered this for me Amadelboom and Sutherland are in the Karoo Roggeveld area. A mission station was there and now it is on a tourist route. Yes Heather I am 'bothered' about where it is because it features quite prominently in the life of one of my family. And I wanted especially to know where exactly this place was because it seemed far from his usual stamping ground. You know - it's all flesh on dem dry bones. Thanks to all for the replies about roods etc. I still don't know what and where the divided estate "The Grove" is/was Pat Heather wrote: You are quite correct is is named after the Rhenish Mission Station> > We are now all bothered as to where it REALLY is ? > kind regards > Heather
