If so, please contact Margaret Lewis at su3681@eclipse.co.uk with cc to myself. Thank you! Ivy Trott. Subject :- Attempt to trace the following person or persons. (1) John Austin McEwan. Date of Birth 18th February 1925, and (2) Thomas McEwan, brother of above--slightly younger OR (3) their descendants. The following information is known-- The father of above (Jack McEwan) was employed by a British firm called Reyrolles of Hebburn as an electrical engineer, and in approximately 1930 was sent to Natal for the purpose of electrifying the railway, and eventually settled in South Africa. He was a married man and had two sons who will be full cousins of myself if they are still alive. His wife Mrs McEwan died on the 27th May 1936 at Sea Point, Capetown, and is buried at Plumstead Cemetary, Capetown. The following information is known re (1) above John served with the Royal Naval Reserve in the latter part of WW2 as a sub Lt, and a relative of ours met him in Ceylon (now Shri-lanka) in 1945. Around this time it seems that John married a Dorothy Klucknow, whose mother lived at the following address 3 Montreux Flats, Mazoe Street, Salisbury, (now Harare) I have sent correspondence to this address in May of this year, but have not received any reply. I have contacted the Naval authorities in the UK, who confirm he was in the RNR, but have no further information. Is it possible that you might be able to help me in tracing the above, or can you direct me to other sources that may be able to help. Thank you for reading this Geoffrey E Laws Honiton. 3. Hello Geoffrey and Ivy I browsed the National Archives database and came up with the following which might be connected. The first is filed in Cape Town and the other in Pietermaritzberg. Seeing that Jack McEwan was sent to Natal this seems a positive hit. You will have to find someone who is willing to do the lookup for you.
