Hi Kate, Contact the 2 Cemeteries in Rustenburg and ask them to check the registers for that year. You will then be able to know which Cemetery you would need to go to. The Caretakers are normally quite helpful. I don't think a Death certificate would help in finding the grave site I have just arrived in South Africa and think the only thing to do is to go to Rustenburg myself, (if I can escape my family's Braais). I was wondering if any knows anything about any Rustenburg cemeteries used in 1949, for an Anglican burial or which church would have been attended by English protestants at that time. I have never been to Rustenburg, so any help, in trying to find Harold GODBOLD's grave, would be gratefully appreciated. Kind regards, Kate Crisp I met a lovely lady on the train to London recently, we started talking and she told me her father who suffered with chest problems, had been advised to emigrate with his family, (including her and her sister) to Rustenburg, just after the war. She remembers going to school in Rustenburg and has fond memories of her time in South Africa. She is a feisty, elderly lady, who lives in the UK and her equally elderly sister lives in the USA. Their one wish is to find their father's grave whilst they can still travel. She knows he was buried in Rustenburg, but can't remember which church or cemetery it was. I wondered if SKS could help? I live in SA. Try Ancestry24, http://ancestry24.com/ a South African geneology site with lots of information and only R195 subscription a year, very cheap compared to other international geneology sites. I would suggest that you contact Heather Mc Alistair who runs Ancestry24, I am sure she would be able to direct you further. I hope you find what you are looking for, Best wishes, Marilyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kate Crisp" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 29, 2010 11:55 AM Subject: Re: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] Harold George GODBOLD died 8th May1949 Rustenburg > > Thank you to the two people who responded. I ca only put it down to leaving a -3 UK to arriving in this heat, two family braais per day and an over dose of boerewors! I agree Death Notices are a wonderful source of information. What I meant to say is Barbara isn't looking for her family history, she only wants to do a pilgrimage to her father's grave whilst she and her sister are still mobile enough to do so. She is 84 and therefore it is quite an urgent search. She is a lovely lady and in the past visitors to South Africa have said they would help her, only to return to the UK saying they were too busy to look. I promised I would do my best and would like to keep my word. I have never been to Rustenburg and know nothing about it, which is why I turned to you all for advice, which has always been invaluable when I was looking for my own family history. I have found a phone number for an Anglican church in Rustenburg but they are not answering their phone, I will just keep trying. -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Baxter <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Mon, 29 Nov 2010 12:05 Subject: Re: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] Harold George GODBOLD died 8th May1949 Rustenburg Kate -- Unless someone else advises otherwise , I would suggest that you contact your nearest Anglican Church for the information . If no reply from the Angilcan Church then try Catholic/Methodist Churches , if still no reply then try the Municipality or Funeral Parlour (Doves & Adlam Reid) . Hope you find it .
