    2. Listers, ? Many thanks to all of you who responded to my request for a source of the 1911 England Census.. ? For those of you who are interested in the 1911 England Census, all arrows point to www.findmypast.co.uk.? It is a pay per view that is OK, but not nearly as good as Scotlandspeople. ? The 1911 census is available online for all of England, Wales, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Royal Navy and Overseas Military Establishments. Subscription-based access to the 1911 census from Findmypast is now available on top of the pay-per-view access that was previously available. For more information (including details of a special 5% discount code off all subscriptions), go to the Accessing the 1911 Census page. Alternatively, go directly to the official online 1911 census site.

    3. Hi There use to be a "backdoor" into ancestry.com via the Suffern Library now unfortunately firmly shut, locked and bolted! This has prevented me continuing my research on the people buried at St Paul's graveyard (see www.stpaulsrondebosch.co.za) so I'm going to subscribe to either ancestry.co.uk or findmypast.co.uk Prices are about the same. Any recommnedations before I splash out my priestly pennies? 3. Hi Derek, I've used both and had to say that I prefer Ancestry.co.uk..... Why did I subscribe to both? Sailings TO the U.K. from South Africa can be found on ancestry.co.uk and sailings FROM the U.K. to South Africa can be found on findmypast......SO irritating. Best wishes, Tombi Peck ----- Original Message ----- From: "Derek Pratt" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, April 30, 2010 12:25 PM Subject: Re: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] 1911 England Census > Hi > There use to be a "backdoor" into ancestry.com via the Suffern Library > now unfortunately firmly shut, locked and bolted! > > This has prevented me continuing my research on the people buried at St > Paul's graveyard (see www.stpaulsrondebosch.co.za) so I'm going to > subscribe to either ancestry.co.uk or findmypast.co.uk Prices are about > the same. 3. I tend to use Findmypast more than Ancestry because the search options on Ancestry are so confusing. Both are OK, though both have unbelievable corruption in many of the transcriptions (both of course give access to the original images and allow you to submit corrections). I have noticed that neither of them is reliably complete, though I haven't gone into comparing the gaps. What gaps there are are not very substantial. anyway. 3. I find Ancestry.com much easier to use, but one has to have patience sometimes to wade through all the possible documents which come up. Best wishes, Rose
