    1. Re: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] Lost Family- Hough
    2. Derek Pratt
    3. Hi, I own a 1958-9 and a 1965-6 Cape Times Directory. In the former (1958-9) there is a G HOUGH living at 209 Lower Main Road [Lower Main Road is completely different from Main Road or Main Street - The Lion Match Factory is/was on the corner of Lower Main Road and St Michaels Road, Observatory]. Now, 209 is on the left hand side (Mountain) of Lower Main Road between Milton and Bishop Road. The Lion Match Factory is on the Right hand side from St Michael's Road to Nelson Road. Bishop Road is more-or less opposite St Michael's Road so 209 must have be not quite opposite the Match Factory but a block or so nearer Rondebosch from it. The 1965-6 Edition has 203-211 listed as Apartments and no HOUGH's in Observatory at all - one in Falmouth Road Mowbray - near Medical School - I would call it Observatory but Mowbray is a much better address lol. Sorry just found one in Lower Trill Road - a P A HOUGH If G HOUGH died post 1960 the Cape Archives won't have his death notice yet and the CDNI is very sporadic post 1960. The Master's Office becomes your best bet. As far Churches go, there are quite a few within walking distance from 209 Lower Main Road including Catholic, Methodist Congregational (now burnt down) as well as of course Anglican (grin) St Michael's in St Michael's Road. Fr Richard Girdwood is the Rector there 0214476420 Not sure of his email as I have only the 2009 Year book but you could try [email protected] Derek Pratt Rector St Paul's Anglican Church Rondebosch On 27/04/2010 12:36, [email protected] wrote: > Hi > > I am new at this, hope somebody can help! > > I am looking for more information on my grandfather Gerald John Hough, born > and died in Cape Town, and lived in Main St, Observatory, Cape Town next to > the old Lion Match Factory. > > I am also trying to find out who his parents were, who also lived at the > same address. > > I have tried the NAAIRS database and the www.e-family.co.za (Use option > CDNI (Cape Death Notice Index) by clicking on C.D.N.I.) > > And have found nothing that I can link to. > > The last contact with the family was in 1980, so they lived in Observatory > to this date. > > I am even willing to try an old Cape Town phone book, to try and find some > initials, we do not even know what church they belonged too. > > I hope there is somebody who might have some advice or information. > > > > Kind Regards > > Wendel > > > > > > Thaba Tsweni Lodge& Safaris > > PO Box 45 > > Graskop > > 1270 > > > > Tel: 013 7671380 > > Fax: 086 5241131 > > Email: [email protected] > > Web: www.blyderivercanyonaccommodation.com > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >
