    3. Hi Mark, I too have drawn a blank on item 1 - I think the year must be wrong. Nothing in sailings, or consular or marine births for that year. Item 2: The following are passengers on ss GALEKA which sailed on 22 October 1904 from Southampton to Cape Town, but no sign yet of the husband. Mrs E.G. MANN - aged 38 Miss E. MANN - aged 14 Master S. MANN - aged 12 Master E. MANN - aged 8 Master W. MANN- aged 6 Master L. MANN - aged 3 Master E. MANN - aged 1 Let me know if you want the image, but it's rather large! The lists for that period seem vary scarce. I am trying to find: 1) George Carmichael born April 1912 on board ship (so I was told) but have found no other corroborating evidence. They were Scottish and the only "Carmichael" I can find is a Mrs. & Miss Carmichael out of Southampton in March 1912. No idea if it was them. I never knew the names of his parents or siblings, or where they came from. He married Phyllis Pretorius around 1935. If I don't find anything from passenger lists or other stuff about tyhem in the Cape, I'll have to hope the marriage certificate shows something. No reference to it in the archives that I can find though. The death notice might help too, and I have the reference to that, but I was still hoping for something from the ships lists. 2) The family of Ernest George Mann b1869/70 & Hannah Sophia Mann (neƩ Thompson - b1870) with their children. They were still in Essex during the 1901 census, with sons Sidney b1892, Edward, William and Leonard. I think they came before 1912 because Sidney married Elizabeth Frances David (b 1889 - I have no other info at all on her but would really like some) and their son Sidney was born in 1912 (in SA as far as I know). I don't know where the daughter Ethel was during the 1901 census, but she also came to South Africa and was married to James Gwynn. My main interest is their landing in SA, but all other relevant info will be gratefully received. With George Carmichael I know the way forward is probably to get the death notice, but I thought maybe someone could help with the Cape Town side. I believe Ernest George Mann would have worked for the post office when he came out here, as he was a linesman with the post office in England. I think several people are researching "Mann" families. If anyone is researching this particular one, please help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
