Hi Heather and other listers, Following on from the query about St. John the Evangelist in Cape Town (that made interesting reading!) I have a church/cathedral that I am interested in. St. Albans Cathedral, Pretoria prior to 1957. My great grandparents Herbert Howard BROWNE Jnr and Jessie Anne KIDWELL I've just discovered (per kind favour of Tessa King) were married in St. Albans Cathedral, Pretoria, Transvaal Republic on the 27th April 1881. Entry No. 49 (the only one in that year!) Herbert Howard BROWNE 24 (he was actually 26) Batchelor Farmer Havre-Klip, Pretoria (it's now District Springs) by Banns Consent None Jessie Anne KIDWELL 24 Spinster Hazeldene, Pretoria Consent None The witnessis H.B. Premuir, H.H. BROWNE & Minnie BROWNE (parents of the groom). I have managed to find a photograph of St. Albans Cathedral, Schoeman Street, Pretoria, but this building was only built in 1957.... Do you (or any other lister) happen to have a photograph of the Cathedral as it was before the 1957 construction? I am led to believe that part of the original was built from corregated iron....which sounds about right!
