    1. [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] Joseph FURNESS and Catherine (nee SKINNER): Possibly emmigrated to Cape Town between 1864 marriage and 1871 Census
    2. Ray Skinner
    3. Seeking information regarding the above. Per their marriage certificate Joseph and Catherine were married on 22 May 1864 at Trinity Chapel, East India Road, Poplar, Middlesex. Joseph FURNESS, age 40, a widower who was a labourer. Catherine SKINNER is described as a 27 year old spinster. At the time they were both living at 5 Prospect Place (West of the Limehouse basin). Do not seem to be listed in the 1871 UK census. They may have had a son John FURNESS who was living at Coleridge Street, Salt River in March 2010; he wrote a letter seeking information regarding the estate of his uncle John SKINNER who had died in Auckland December 1908. Potential clues from the Ancestry 24 web site; (a) 1865 Cape Almanac, a James Furness 1865, carpenter, 41Wale Street (b) 1900 Juta's Directory, a J Furness, Tennyson Street, Salt River Are these postal directories? Suggestions welcomed. Ray Skinner (Auckland)

    3. Hi Ray I have forwarded your enquiry to Neil Furness, originally from Mossel Bay, now living in Howick. His grandfather was a John Furness. There are records/reference to John Furness in Naairs.
