    3. Hello, is there a lister who could possibly help with the parents and family of James Billings born Cape Town, 1820 or 1822. There seems to be a military connection with the family so maybe he was born to a Betish couple stationed there? Thanks very much, Shirley. NZ

Hi Shirley, The Army Service Records list a James BILLINGS, born Cape Town in 1820, who joined the 38th Regiment of Foot on 24 August 1834 and attained the rank of Colour Serjeant by the time of his discharge on 17 January 1860. He died on 4 August 1901 at the age of 80 years and 7 months and is buried at Brompton Cemetery. If you think that he is your man, I can send you the images of his Army record offlist.
