Hi Kevin, Here's what there is in the original 1890-1897 timeframe that you have given me. Sorry, but I don't have anything prior to 1890. Mr. F.W.BAXTER - date of birth unknown - sailed Southampton to Cape Town on board ss Tartar departed 1 February 1896. He was single and APPEARS to have been travelling alone, but on the same vessel, same sailing, we also have....... Mr. S. BAXTER - aged 22, occupation draper, English nationality, and single - sailed Southampton to East London on board ss Tartar departed 1 February 1896 (Steerage). The only other male BAXTERs in this same timeframe are:- Mr. BAXTER - no initials, forenames or date of birth, but of Scottish nationality - sailed Southampton to Natal on board ss Mexican departed 25 July 1890. He was single and appears to have been travelling alone. No other information available Mr. BAXTER - no initials, forenames or date of birth, but of English nationality - sailed Southmpton to Cape Town on borad ss Mexican departed 19 August 1893. He was married and was travelling with a Miss BAXTER. No other information available. The second one looks hopeful and if you'd like me to send the passenger manifest image offlist, I will happily do so. (It will be quite a large file). I tried to find Samuel on the 1891 Census, but the nearest match I can find is a 20 year old commercial traveller boarding in Leicester but born in Beckenham. Perhaps you know better! Hi Maurice Many thanks for your quick response and information . FW looks to be 100% correct --- or very close . I agree with what you think re Samuel , possible sailing on 1 Feb 1896 -- will not discount the second possibility at this stage . Please could you send whatever information/copies of documents you may have . Much appreciated and maybe I could be of help to you one day . Kind regards Kevin -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Maurice Sheppard Sent: 06 June 2010 15:29 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [SOUTH-AFRICA-CAPE-TOWN] Passenger list: Shepherdess (1858) Hi Kevin, Here's what there is in the original 1890-1897 timeframe that you have given me.
